Deacon John Henry Jones
On Monday, January 12, 2026 we came together not only to mourn a loss, but to celebrate a life beautifully lived.
At 99 years young, Deacon John Henry Jones completed a journey marked by faithfulness, joy, and unwavering commitment. How meaningful it is that his final transition happened here at the Betty Hill Senior Center, the place he loved, the place that knew his footsteps, his smile, and his steady presence.
For more than fifty years, he showed us what devotion looks like. Day after day, he came through these doors unless the center was closed or a doctor’s visit called him elsewhere. This was his place. His community. His rhythm of life.
Scripture reminds us in Psalm 90:12,
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
He lived that wisdom. He valued his days, and he invested them right here among friends, with laughter and shared moments that mattered.
His life speaks to us still. It says:
Show up. Stay connected. Cherish community. And because he did, the senior center is richer for it.
The Bible tells us in Proverbs 10:7,
“The memory of the righteous is a blessing.”
And today, his memory truly is a blessing woven into the very fabric of this place. His legacy lives on in every familiar chair, every hallway, every story shared here.
We rejoice knowing that he lived fully, loved deeply, and left this world surrounded by the place that brought him joy.
As 2 Timothy 4:7 says,
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
And indeed, he finished his race with grace.
A prayer from all of us:
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of his life
for 99 years of memories, purpose, and love. Thank You for allowing him to find joy, belonging, and friendship here at the Betty Hill Senior Center.
We ask that You comfort every heart that feels his absence today. May Your peace surround this community, and may his legacy remind us to treasure one another and the time we are given.
We trust that he now rests in Your presence, whole and at peace,
hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Until we meet again, we hold his memory with gratitude and joy.
In Your holy name we pray,
Amen.
Malinda Griffin,
Director of the Betty Hill Senior Center and Hancock Transit System and Senior Center Family.
