Troop 443 recognized 3 Eagles with a Court of Honor on Monday. These young men are off to their next stages in life with two of them heading to college and one joining the military.

Layton H. led the troop to build the sports library and cut new trails to access the park from the southeast corner of Lazy 5 Regional Park for his Eagle project. The sports library has been a hit with local kids, and the new park access will be helpful as that area continues to grow.

Alex B.'s Eagle project was to build a new storage shed for Lord of Mercy Lutheran Church in Sparks. They have been very happy with the extra storage space and our scouts learned valuable construction skills.

Last, but not least! Wakely D. managed our troop in his Eagle project to rehabilitate a small game guzzler in the Nightingale Mountains. The guzzler had to be dug up, have a new tank installed, have the roof and plumbing fixed up, and new fencing. This project in cooperation with Nevada Department of Wildlife, will help small critters reach water during our dry Nevada summers.

These scouts have been fantastic leaders in our troop helping the younger boys to learn new skills and helping to teach our next generation of leaders within Troop 443. We will miss them on our campouts and at meetings but cannot be prouder of all their accomplishments in the Troop, in school, sports, band, JR ROTC, and all the accomplishments yet to come! Congratulations, gentlemen!

A few of our senior scouts enjoyed a quick campout at Pyramid Lake to say goodbye to summer. They paddledboarded, battle boarded, played football, cooked, enjoyed a campfire, and slept on the beach under the stars. While school starts tomorrow, these boys have plenty more adventures left this year.

The troop enjoyed a wonderful week at Camp Meriwether on the Oregon coast last week. They made movies and memories, rode bikes and the waves, climbed towers and endless hills, and came together in a way that only a week at summer camp can do. Both leaders and Scouts brought honor to the troop and our council, and we look forward to seeing our name in the lodge for generations to come.

A huge congratulations to our four Scouts who participated and the one Scout who served as staff in National Youth Leadership Training this past week. They all came back a little more mature (and tired) equipped with the skills to be better leaders.

While the Scouts in Troop 443 are comfortable and capable in the outdoors, they also learn about citizenship. Today four Scouts were able to sit in for part of a criminal docket in district court, meet attorneys, and witness our criminal justice system firsthand.

Over the weekend, Troop 443 Scout Logan led the troop in working on his Eagle Scout project. Under his guidance, we refurbished an old fire pit to become the base of a decorative statue, installed the base and apron for a flagpole, built a new fire pit, and repaired walkways and drainage paths at the Eagle Meadows area of Galena Creek Park. This area is heavily used by the community in the warmer months, and will be put to work very soon.

Logan would like to thank Ranger Bob and Ranger Anthony with Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space, The Home Depot Spanish Springs and South Reno, The Flag Store, Sign & Banner, Reno Rock, the Schilling Family, and all of the Troop 443 families who helped make his project a success.

Congratulations, Logan. We are all very proud of you, and cannot wait to later welcome you to the Eagle’s Nest

The boys travelled out to Unionville for a long weekend filled with fishing and cooking. Several Scouts finished their fishing merit badge by cooking their catfish and trout, and the long weekend provided an opportunity for both a chili cook off and a Mexican food fiesta.
