SMART Local 26 at Tradeswomen Build Nations 2026!

Three of our sheet metal sisters, along with Business Manager Sean O’Keefe, spent October 9–11 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, for Tradeswomen Build Nations, the world’s largest gathering of unionized tradeswomen.

Thousands of women from across the building trades came together for workshops, networking, and a whole lot of solidarity. Our members left with new connections, fresh ideas, and a stronger sense of our power when we stand together.

Thank you to Sheet Metal Air Rail and Transportation Workers, SMART Local 26, and a Local Signatory Contractor for making it possible to send our members. Investing in our tradeswomen is investing in the future of our union and our industry.

With heavy hearts, our Local 26 family shares the news of the tragic passing of Julianna, age 16, niece of our brother, Victor Santacruz. She was taken far too soon, and our thoughts are with her family during this unimaginable time.

CONTRACTOR SPOTLIGHT: Mt. Rose Heating and Air Conditioning Inc.

SMART Local 26 Business Representative Shane Henderson and Organizer Cesar Carrillo-Pena recently visited the Mt. Rose fabrication shop to see our members at work.

The visit provided a behind-the-scenes look at the fabrication process, including ductwork fabrication, spiral fabrication, 90-degree elbow fabrication, welding, and component assembly.

As a locally owned signatory contractor, Mt. Rose can support industrial, commercial, and residential HVAC projects from design-build and plan-and-spec work to the fabrication needed to bring them together.

It's a great example of what happens when skilled Local 26 members and a strong local contractor come together: quality fabrication, skilled craftsmanship, and the ability to deliver for projects throughout Northern Nevada.

SHOP SPOTLIGHT: ACCO ENGINEERED SYSTEMS

The SMART Local 26 recently visited ACCO Engineered Systems and got a firsthand look at the craftsmanship and skill behind sheet metal fabrication.

The SMART Local 26 team stopped by to see our members working together, emphasizing the teamwork that makes quality work possible and fostering a sense of pride and belonging.

This is what makes the sheet metal trade so unique. It combines precision, fabrication, welding, problem-solving, technology, and hands-on craftsmanship, providing opportunities to earn industry-recognized certifications and develop valuable skills that build a rewarding career.

ACCO's investment in Northern Nevada, including its Sparks fabrication facility, creates local career opportunities and inspires community pride and a sense of contribution.

Shop Snapshot: Apollo Mechanical

Ever wonder what it takes to turn a flat piece of metal into the ductwork that ends up in the buildings around Northern Nevada? Here’s a look behind the scenes at Apollo Mechanical!

We had the opportunity to visit the fabrication shop and meet with Zack Biggs, Matt Gregg, Cody Pennington, Rafael Solares, and Matt Riley, who gave us a look at the work happening on the shop floor.

We got to see our apprentices and journeymen putting their skills to work, from duct fabrication to the hands-on processes that keep projects moving.

It’s always great to see the craftsmanship, teamwork, and pride that goes into the work before it ever leaves the shop floor.

From apprenticeship to journeyman, SMART Local 26 members are building the skills and infrastructure that keep Northern Nevada moving.

This past weekend, SMART Local 26 was out in Reno, knocking on doors and talking with our neighbors about the issues that matter to working families.

Our members hit the streets to support Aaron D. Ford for Governor and Teresa Benitez-Thompson for Congress, making sure working people have a voice in Nevada’s future.

From the jobsite to the neighborhood, Local 26 members are proud to stand up, get involved, and fight for good jobs, strong communities, and a better Nevada.
