Northern Nevada Chapter of COPS Concerns Of Police Survivors helps rebuild the shattered lives of families and co-workers of a Line Of Duty Death. Box 1327 Sparks, Nevada 89432.

Northern Nevada Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 that exists solely to support the families and co-workers of police officers who have died in the line of duty. 100% of all proceeds go directly to families affected by line-of-duty deaths. This includes sending our survivors to the National Police Week which is held in Washington D.C. in May of each year as well as

to weekend retreats for the different survivor groups. These retreats help our survivors on their journey of grief and coping with unimaginable loss. Impressum

Code 3 Barbecue is celebrating one year of bringing together first responders, military members, veterans, and their families through faith, fellowship, wellness, and brotherhood. Join them on Sunday, June 28th for a day filled with great food, family fun, volleyball, community connection, and appreciation for those who serve. Deputy Sheriff George Rice was shot and killed while at the scene of a call involving a mentally ill man firing a gun at cars in Smith Valley near the Smith Valley School.

The suspect was barricaded in his house, and Deputy Rice was standing about 20 yards away when the man opened fire, striking Deputy Rice in the head. The suspect was taken into custody during a SWAT operation later in the night.

The suspect pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.

Deputy Rice was a United States Air Force Vietnam War veteran and had served with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office for three years. He previously served with the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. He was survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, brother, and sister.

Deputy Franklin J. Minnie Sr. succumbed to injuries sustained two days earlier in a motorcycle crash as he was pursuing a trespassing suspect on I-80.

As Deputy Minnie was passing a tractor-trailer, a piece of debris struck his motorcycle, causing him to lose control and strike the median near the Boomstown exit.

Deputy Minnie had served with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office for 10 years. He was survived by his wife, son, and three daughters.

Deputy Sheriff David Grant was killed in an automobile crash while responding to a small plane crash near Columbia, California, at approximately 11:00 am.

He was responding to the scene on Highway 49 and was approaching the intersection at Parrotts Ferry Road. Another car failed to yield the right of way, pulling out onto the highway clipping Deputy Grant's patrol car causing him to crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.

Deputy Grant had served with the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department for 15 years and had served in law enforcement for a total of 28 years - previously with Sonora Police Department and Oceanside Police Department. He was survived by his wife, Richie, son, Justin, three daughters, Rory, Jennifer, and Whitney, four sisters (Debbie, Janine, Cathy, and Julie), one brother, (James), and seven grandchildren, (Archie, Sadie, Cruz, Vivian, Isabel, Mara, and Charlotte).

Chief Deputy Fire Marshal John Dorff died as the result of cancer he developed after responding to investigate a fire at a mine storage facility.

He was exposed to hazardous materials, including high levels of benzene. In 1994, Deputy Dorff was diagnosed with leukemia and died due to the disease on May 30th, 1995.

Chief Deputy Dorff was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Burbank Police Department, California, and the Carson City Juvenile Justice Center. He was survived by his wife, daughter, son, mother, brother, and sister.
