When Tilly first arrived at Longleaf Animal Sanctuary, she and Tink were immediately interested in one another.

Both pigs followed each other along the fence line, clacked their teeth, foamed at the mouth, and raised their hackles.

Many people see raised hackles and assume aggression, but pig body language is often more complex than it appears.

Although both pigs were highly excited and focused on one another, there was no biting or fighting. Instead, they stayed engaged, moving together along the fence line and communicating in their own unique way.

Because Tilly had not yet been spayed, it’s possible that reproductive hormones played a role in the behaviors we observed.

Pig behavior is all about context. The same body language can mean very different things depending on the situation.

What do you think Tink and Tilly were saying to each other?

🌶️ Meatless Monday: Vegan Jalapeño “Chicken” Casserole 🌱

Comfort food with just the right amount of kick! This easy casserole is creamy, cheesy, and packed with flavor—without any animal products.

Ingredients

* “Just Meat” Chicken (purchased at Walmart)
* White onion, diced
* Vegan cream cheese
* Spinach
* Jalapeños, diced
* Garlic powder
* Black pepper
* Tortilla chips
* Vegan mozzarella cheese

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a large skillet, combine the “Just Meat” Chicken, onion, cream cheese, spinach, jalapeños, garlic powder, and pepper.
3. Spread a layer of tortilla chips in the bottom of a casserole dish.
4. Add a layer of the jalapeño-chicken mixture.
5. Repeat with another layer of tortilla chips and the remaining mixture.
6. Top generously with vegan mozzarella cheese.
7. Bake for approximately 40 minutes, until hot and bubbly.

Creamy, cheesy, a little spicy, and completely plant-based. One of our favorite comfort foods and a perfect reminder that compassionate meals can be every bit as satisfying as traditional favorites. 💚

Welcome to your forever home.”

Today, Tilly heard those words for the very first time.

And somehow… it already feels like she’s always belonged here.

Cows have bottom front teeth…
but no upper front teeth!

Instead, they use a tough dental pad on the top of their mouth to help pull and tear grass while grazing. 🌱” ❤️ 🌱
