This is a testimony from our awesome amazing volunteer Christina Barnett Thank you 🙏
Tonight during outreach at the Pilot… I was reminded how valuable life is… and how hard it is for others. How lonely and hopeless they feel, invisible, scared, tired, embarrassed, and the lack of freedom they have physically and spiritually. I saw the bo***ge and chains on them tonight.
I see this 4 to 5 nights a week… but tonight it hit different. As the unhoused were being served, they were very high and disoriented tonight… more high and stand-offish. They were quieter than normal… but at the end, I went looking for a pregnant woman, and as I turned the corner, I saw a gentleman riding his bike and then just slide down from the bike to the ground. People ran around him, trying to get him to come to. He looked dead… slowly turning blue… people getting more frantic. I’m watching with Blake. I start praying, “Father God, breathe life in his lungs, put the beat back in his heart.”
I get out of the car with a Narcan shot. I tell everyone to stand back. I start to administer the shot. This is the 2nd time I’ve ever had to use the shot… believing in God but scared out of my mind. I start rubbing his chest really hard and telling him, “Come back. God’s got a plan for you. This ain’t your time, homie. Come back!!!”
“Oh God. Dear God. Oh God. Dear God,” is all I could say…
Next thing I know, he starts moving his head and mumbling and moaning. I called 911, prayed for him, and continued looking for the pregnant woman. God showed me where she was, and I got to minister to her and pray with her.
On my way home, all I could think was that man should be dead, but God saved him, and I watched him come back to life with 8 other people. Thank You, Jesus, for every precious life!
Now I think there has to be a better way… there has to be a solution. These people are the Lord’s children… they don’t deserve this life. Where is the help for these souls? -Christina
Tonight, I thank God that we had the right volunteers at the right time, exactly where He placed us to be. Thank God for Narcan. Had we not been there, this story could have ended very differently. God knew exactly where His people needed to be tonight.
We need people to volunteer and partner with us who have a heart for God’s misfits. We are the hands and feet of Jesus. As followers of Jesus Christ, we should be uplifting and helping people who are hopeless, homeless, addicted, mentally unwell, and lost. This could be your relative, friend, teacher, coworker, spouse, child, or neighbor.
Please continue to pray for those struggling with addiction, homelessness, and mental illness. Every soul matters. Every life has value. And every person deserves to know that they are seen, loved, and not forgotten.
