Over the past few years many of us have been involved in conversations at happy hours, wedding dances, fish fry’s and other social events where we all end up at the same point….WHY NOT SPALDING?!?!? For years a great group of individuals planned and executed fun events in town such as the Spalding Appreciation Days, triathlons, community picnics, street dances, “Anything Goes,” Demo-Derby’s, and m
ore but because of age and growing families, burnout, and dwindling population some of those things ended. With the great young population that Spalding currently has (something many towns do not!), it was clear we were missing out on a great opportunity. All these conversations prompted a few of us to get together and discuss what we could do to bring back that “It” factor to Spalding. We realized with the group of young individuals living, working, and raising young families in the community, it was our turn to step up and lead! We thank those folks that for years have organized great events in Spalding, but it’s time the baton be handed off. This led to the creation of the “Spalding Community Club,” headed by a nine person board with well over 50 others on tap to volunteer, assist, and attend events. With this group we will look to again make Spalding the envy of small towns everywhere. As an organization we will strive to foster community unity and progress through social gatherings, family functions, fundraisers, and other events. We want to bring this great community back together to show the next generation why Spalding is such a special place to live. Many of us on the board always wanted to move back because we legitimately love Spalding. We love the small community, the fun events, and the great support and generosity the community members show each other. There are many of us though, that feel this has been missing, especially over the past couple of years and that is something we can’t stand by and watch happen. We hope everyone who feels as passionately as we do about this community will join us in volunteering through ideas, event help, donations, etc. All meetings will be open to the public and information about those meetings and events will be posted on the Spalding Community Club page, so please follow us there! This organization is a Community Club so we want to have as many people involved as possible. We hope at some point everyone that has an idea can have it heard by this organization. Any funds made off of events will be put right back into more events or larger events the next year. We want to spend every volunteer minute and every dollar made by this group on the community of Spalding, one way or another. Current Board members include Matt Glaser (President), Ari Ray (Vice-President), Mitch Glesinger, Katrina Glaser (Treasurer), Malisa Ragar (Secretary), Michelle Weltruski, Tracy Schmeits, Ethan Asche, Chelsea Hartley, DJ Greger, Tina Naughtin, Ethan Asche, and Steph Thome. Feel free to approach any of us with questions, comments, or ideas. Please be on the lookout for information about upcoming meetings and events. We look forward to the great things we think can come out of this organization and hope you do too!
