Hard-working, family-centered, patriotic Americans with a strong sense of community. Beautiful farm and forest lands sandwiched between the low hills to our east and the higher Berkshires to our west, punctuated by our magnificent Congamond Lakes. 250 proud years as an incorporated town within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Colorful, unique history including 100+ years in which our jog was in dispute, gunpowder manufacture, the Farmington Canal, ice industry, Congamond as tourist destination, shade to***co production and much more.
On November 7, 1770 the Massachusetts colonial legislature officially chartered Southwick as a separate town, setting it off from Westfield, making 2020 our 250th birthday. Our Select Board has convened a committee to plan a year-long community celebration of our proud heritage and bright future. We are planning a year-long community-focused celebration with events for all ages and interests. We will work with the many wonderful annual events that our churches, civic groups, schools and businesses already sponsor. And, we will promote “buy local” with our businesses who live, hire, pay taxes and serve our community.
We invite all current residents of our community to follow this site. We hope that those who spent part of their life here and still carry a piece of Southwick in their heart will join. We welcome folks whose family tree includes ancestors who once called Southwick home. So please Share this page widely. This site is intended to be a conversation - please share vintage photos, stories and shout-outs to ancestors who lived here.
So please join us. Let’s get this party started Southwick!
