If you’ve walked through Southport Center recently, you may have noticed a familiar landmark has returned.

The original community vitrine - once located outside S**c & Span and The Driftwood Diner - has been lovingly restored and given a new home in the garden outside Russell Insurance

Swipe to the second photo to see the vitrine in its original location. It was built by longtime Southport USPS letter carrier Royal Everts, who faithfully maintained both the bulletin board and its surrounding garden until his passing in 2006.

When the new Five Corners monument was constructed, the vitrine had to be relocated. Since then, members of the Sasquanaug Conservancy have worked to restore this cherished piece of Southport’s history and find it a permanent new home.

We’re grateful to Russell Insurance for welcoming it, and to Hannah Chambers and the team Glengate for generously donating the beautiful plantings and volunteering to care for the garden in the years ahead.

The restored vitrine is once again a place for the Sasquanaug Conservancy and other Southport nonprofits and community organizations to share news and events - a small but meaningful way to help keep our community connected.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this Southport landmark back to life.

This was our first year leading the fundraising efforts for Southport’s Blessing of the Fleet & Street Parade - And it was a great success! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this wonderful celebration of our beloved community.

To mark the occasion, we assembled our first ever float - Seen here is the “Onion Mobile,” a 1980s Land Rover Defender clad with our four pillars and a couple hundred onions. A special shout out to Madelyn & Charlotte Russell for volunteering to create the big onion!
