The Center for Advocacy, Support & Transformation (CAST) helps low income residents meet their nutritional, energy, and educational needs.

Community Action Southold Town (CAST) is a 501(c)3, Not-For-Profit organization created in 1965 to help low-income residents meet their basic needs in the areas of nutrition, employment, energy, and education. CAST exists as a safety net for Southold Town families from Laurel to Orient Point and Fisher’s Island. “It is the mission of CAST to promote self-sufficiency and provide a safety net for So

uthold Town residents in need.” The majority of CAST’s funding comes from the generosity of the community and a variety of fundraising activities, including applications for grants from private and public organizations.

Throughout the month of September, Southold Free Library is hosting an Essential Items Drive benefiting CAST!

Donations of everyday essentials will help create Essential Item Bags for community members in need. Needed items include toilet paper, paper towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, laundry detergent, and baby items.

We are so grateful to Southold Free Library for their continued partnership and support and for helping us provide essential items to our neighbors in need. 💚

🍅 Fresh Tomatoes, Homemade Sauce! 🍅

Our community came together for a hands-on cooking workshop using fresh tomatoes generously donated by Anderson Farm in Riverhead. Together, we turned the tomatoes into homemade sauce for everyone to take home and enjoy!

A special thank you to Rosemarie Wagner and Diane McConnell for sharing their time, knowledge, and expertise to make this workshop possible.

We’re grateful to our local farmers and community members who help make fresh, nutritious food accessible to our neighbors.

✨ CAST’s annual School Supply Drive was a wonderful success! Thanks to the generosity of our community, we distributed more than 500 brand-new backpacks filled with school supplies to local students, helping them start the school year feeling prepared and confident. 📚✏️

A special thank you to Supplies for Success, St. Peter's Lutheran Church St. Peter's Lutheran Church the Southold Town Police Department, and the 36 local businesses that hosted donation bins and helped make this drive possible. We’re also grateful to Jose for generously providing haircuts and helping our students look and feel their best as they head back to school! 💙

Thank you to all of the donors and volunteers who gave their time, resources, and support to make this event so amazing. We couldn’t do it without our incredible community! 🙌

☀️ Summer Rise Week 6: Our Final Week! ☀️

Our final week of Summer Rise was filled with fun, learning, and plenty of special moments as we wrapped up another wonderful summer program!

🎶 Andonia Fthenakis Andonia Sound Healing visited CAST and led the students through a relaxing Sound Bath.

🎨 We hosted our Community Art Show, where more than 75 community members came out to admire the beautiful artwork our students created throughout the summer. A special thank you to Tess Wonderling for donating her time to teach the students how to make healthy snacks using ingredients from our garden!

🏛️ Students walked to the Maple Lane Campus, where they enjoyed tours of the historic buildings. Thank you to Darren St. George and Maya Bliss for organizing the visit, and to all of the volunteers who led our groups!

🍧 We also enjoyed a sweet visit from Dos Ositos Paletas, who brought delicious paletas for the students to enjoy.

🎨 Anjli Vaswani led her final watercolor class, where students had fun experimenting with different colors and lines.

🍦Mister Softee stopped by to help us celebrate as the children wrapped up the program!

A huge thank you to all of our instructors, readers, volunteers, community partners, and everyone who helped make this Summer Rise season so meaningful. Most of all, thank you to our amazing students for making this summer so special!

☀️ Summer Rise Week 5 brought new adventures, exciting experiences, and plenty of summer fun! 🎨🌱

This week included:

📚 Building science, math, and reading skills on a rainy Monday
🦬 Adding additions to our bison in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with Erwin Sanchez Erwin List
☀️ Learning about solar energy by building ovens out of pizza boxes
🍫 Using our solar ovens to make s’mores!
🔎 Exploring Wolf Preserve, visiting North Fork Art Collective and the camera obscura in Greenport
🧘‍♀️ Enjoying outdoor yoga led by Megan Bowles, a scavenger hunt, and photography at the Landcraft Garden Foundation Landcraft Garden Foundation
