Parents pay attention

Teens and young adults in the United States are risking death to get high as recreational use of nitrous oxide — commonly known as whippits — is “rising rapidly,” according to doctors at the Yale School of Medicine.

Yesterday I was visiting my son's school
I live a bright colored bench in the yard. I asked if this was the only place to sit.
- And he said to me, ′′ No, that's the bench of friends. When someone is lonely or can't find a game partner, they'll sit there and others invite them to play with them."
- I tell him I thought this was great, and I asked him if he used it himself?
- He says: ′′ Yes at the beginning of the year when I was new here.
I sat there and another student came to invite me to play with him. This made me happy. And now when I see someone sitting there, I also invite them to play."
Great idea on mutual aid and kindness to implement in all playgrounds

Fentanyl Overdoses May Cause Brain Injury
Identifying oxygen-deprivation brain injury can improve addiction treatment.

KEY POINTS

Many people are rescued from opioid overdoses, but some suffer brain damage from oxygen deprivation.
People who regularly use drugs are at elevated risk of brain injury due to accidents, fights, and overdoses.
A single fentanyl overdose could cause hypoxia, brain injury, and problems with memory and concentration.
The United States leads the world in illicit opioid use and associated overdoses, morbidity, and mortality. Yet, for every fatal overdose in the current wave of fentanyl, speedballing, and xylazine-contaminated drugs, there are about 15 times as many non-fatal overdoses.

Recent studies estimate that 46% to 92% of people who use opioids illicitly either have experienced a non-fatal overdose or witnessed an overdose during their lifetime. Overdose survivors may suffer from undetected brain damage and hypoxic brain injury caused by opioid-induced respiratory depression.
