On April 6th, a car struck Edward's truck with no lights on, pushing him directly into a gas station sign and live power lines. Seconds later, his cab was engulfed in flames.

With the passenger door jammed, Edward had a split-second choice: stay in the truck or jump straight through the fire.

Thirty seconds after he rolled out, the entire truck exploded.

When Johnnie survived an IED explosion, the injury marked the beginning of a recovery that included 34 surgeries and years of rebuilding.

His injuries differ from those burn survivors face, but he understands that surviving the initial trauma is only the first step. Recovery continues long after the emergency ends, when survivors and families must determine what comes next.

That perspective guides his leadership of Beyond the Burn Foundation and his commitment to ensuring survivors receive support throughout recovery.
