UNCF Michigan

UNCF Michigan UNCF is the nation's largest and most effective minority education organization.

Since 1945, the Michigan office has raised over $100,000,000, and counting, and has helped send over 4,500 students from the state of Michigan to college. All made possible with support from our numerous volunteers, community leaders and stakeholders. UNCF envisions a nation where all Americans have equal access to a college education that prepares them for rich intellectual lives, competitive and

fulfilling careers, engaged citizenship and service to our nation. UNCF's mission is to build a robust and nationally-recognized pipeline of under-represented students who, because of UNCF support, become highly-qualified college graduates and to ensure that our network of member institutions is a respected model of best practice in moving students to and through college. UNCF’s North Star is to increase the total annual number of African American college graduates by focusing on activities that ensure more students are college-ready, enroll in college and persist to graduation. This is done through a three-pillar strategy.

- Positioning member institutions as a viable college option for students and investing in institutional capacity to improve student outcomes;

-Creating transformational support programs to ensure students are enrolling and persisting through college completion;

-Building awareness of educational attainment and cultivating college-going behaviors within the African American community.

UNCF Michigan Announces New Chair
Kyleen Walker, Chair - UNCF Michigan Leadership Board

[Detroit, MI | April 14, 2026] — UNCF (United Negro College Fund) proudly announces the appointment of Kyleen E. Walker, Director of Office Management at AlixPartners, as Chair of the UNCF Michigan Leadership Board.

Walker, known for her disciplined ex*****on and people-centered leadership style, consistently delivers results that strengthen both culture and performance. She leads operational strategy, administrative infrastructure, and cross-office coordination to ensure efficiency, scalability and a high-performance workplace environment. With more than 20 years at the firm, she has played a critical role in optimizing business operations, leading and developing administrative teams, and executing complex, multi-office initiatives that support the firm’s consulting excellence.

Kyleen’s impact extends beyond the workplace; she is a long-time advisor to grassroots nonprofit organizations. Through teaching and mentorship, she supports nonprofit leaders in building sustainable organizations and expanding access to opportunity. She is guided by a deep commitment to service, relationships and purpose-driven leadership.

As Chair, Kyleen will serve as a key advocate and ambassador for the campaign, which supports scholarships, college readiness programs and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). She will play a critical role in setting the direction for the UNCF Michigan Leadership Board, strengthening engagement and advancing strategies that increase awareness, deepen partnerships and drive the financial resources needed to support student success.

“This opportunity is deeply meaningful to me as education remains one of the most powerful pathways to transform lives. I’m committed to expanding access, strengthening opportunities and building a pipeline of future leaders who will shape our communities for generations to come. I’m grateful for the trust UNCF has placed in me, and I’m ready to get to work” noted Walker.

“Kyleen’s appointment as the first woman to serve as Chair of the UNCF Michigan Leadership Board is both significant and well-earned. She is a leader who executes with excellence, leads with intention and understands the power of relationships. I am confident her leadership will strengthen our work, deepen our impact and help us deliver on our commitment to the students we serve”, said Patrice M. Neal, Regional Development Director, Michigan Region (Michigan, Ohio/Kentucky & Indiana).

UNCF, which receives no federal funds, depends on contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations to provide vital financial support to students across Michigan and its member institutions. For more information or to get involved, please visit www.uncf.org/Detroit, email [email protected] or call (313) 873-1500.
