BLUME Haiti is Building Leaders Using Music Education, a 501c3 organization dedicated to strengthening the social, civic and economic fabric of Haiti through music education. BLUME Haiti is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that works with Haitian and International partners to develop leadership skills, awaken individual potential, and create opportunities for civic collaboration and economic development through the pursuit of musical excellence.

An instrument is only the beginning.

Bernhardt House of Violins sent 19 string instruments that arrived on September 1. Zoran's Violin Shop gave eight cellos and thirteen full size violins that are on their way to Haiti, carefully packed by Southwest Strings. A huge thank you to all!

Now the work moves to the workbench. Necessary repairs will be made, and the instruments will sing again in the hands of young musicians across Haiti. Since 2014, BLUME Haiti repair workshops have trained well over 200 technicians, so a school's instruments stay in students' hands.

On September 1, 19 string instruments arrived for music schools in Haiti, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of House of Violins.

From full size cellos all the way down to a tiny 1/16 size violin, these instruments will soon be in the hands of young musicians across Haiti. And the shipment didn't stop there: 17 shoulder rests came along too, plus 65 recorders donated by the students of Simpsonville Elementary.

And there's more to come!

In Haiti, replacing or purchasing instruments is extraordinarily difficult and expensive. A well cared for instrument can serve a music school, and generations of students, for years.

Huge thanks to Bernhardt House of Violins for putting more instruments into more hands and helping music continue to grow across Haiti, and to the students at Simpsonville Elementary for their recorder donation.

"Music is more beautiful when we work together."

A student at a BLUME-supported camp wrote that in our 2025 camp survey. This summer, students from 83 music schools across Haiti came together at BLUME-supported camps to learn and rehearse side by side.

Close to 2,900 young musicians spent part of their summer at a BLUME-supported music camp.

They came from 83 music schools across all 10 departments of Haiti. They rehearsed together and made friends, and they took home skills their schools will use long after the last concert. Some also joined instrument repair workshops that help keep their schools' instruments in students' hands.

What a summer!

Across Haiti, young musicians came together to learn, rehearse, make new friends, build confidence, discover their own capacity to lead, and take part in instrument repair workshops that helped keep their music schools equipped and thriving.

The camps may be over, but the skills, friendships, confidence, leadership, and practical knowledge these young people are taking back to their communities will last far beyond the summer.

The Music School of Marmelade recently completed its summer camp in collaboration with JAM Ayiti. Over the course of a week, 462 students participated in workshops led by 37 teachers, both Haitian and international.

This summer, an active parent committee performed in the closing recital alongside their children...many of them learning instruments for the first time themselves.

As school director Wilbens Pierre puts it: "Music is love, music is peace, music is life."

With 462 young musicians across nine ensembles and a community that returns year after year, Marmelade shows what music education builds beyond the stage.
