Dear Friends,

Our pilgrimage to the Holy Land is BACK ON. The Pilgrimage Orientation Meeting is on Sunday, June 21, at St. Joseph Chapel (400 South Blvd. W., Pontiac, MI 48341) from 2:00-4:30 pm in the Lower Level. Enter through the front iron chapel doors. The dates of the pilgrimage are October 12-22, 2026.

First Friday and First Saturday are this week. A 9:00 am Mass will be available on First Saturday in addition to our usual Noon Mass. Doors open at 8:30 am with Confessions available then and after Mass, as needed.

June is the month of the Sacred Heart. A docudramathat has swept France is now coming to the United States: “Sacred Heart: His Reign Has No End.” It will be showing only on June 9, 11 and 14 in select theatres such as the following: AMC Forum 30 (Sterling Hts.), Emagine Palladium (Birmingham), AMC Star Gratiot 15 (Clinton Twp.), MJR Marketplace (Sterling Hts.), Emagine Novi, AMC Livonia 20, Emagine Canton and Emagine Woodhaven. The Immaculate Heart exists for the Sacred Heart, and both Hearts are inseparable in love.

On Thursday, June 11 (not June 12) our bishops will undertake a national consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus to commemorate the 250thAnniversary of our country.

The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart is on Friday, June 12. That evening you are invited to pray our outdoor Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm in reparation to the Sacred Heart. These are the Stations on our property—most of which are located in “The Hallow”—the grassy area behind our chapel. We will conclude by praying a Litany to the Sacred Heart and a Consecration to the Sacred Heart.

The next day we will have an OUTDOOR MASS for the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary—our Shrine’s other patronal namesake (Saturday, June 13). It will be held in The Hallow. May Jesus and Mary reign in the coming Kingdom of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

This picture is the best preserved Crusader church in the Holy Land with the best acoustics, built atop the house of Saints Joachim and Anne--where Mary was conceived (the Immaculate Conception).

Today on Mackinac Island, the Midwest Independent Retailers Association held a public conversation calling for Michigan to recycle the Bottle Bill and modernize the state’s recycling system.

We captured the discussion with Bill Wild and Andrew Doud was shared following the event.

The Bottle Bill, created in 1976, once positioned Michigan as a national leader in recycling. But after fifty years, participation has dropped by nearly 30%, and the burden has shifted heavily onto small retailers who must store and process unsanitary returnables inside their grocery stores.

During today’s event outside Doud’s Market, owner Andrew Doud described the strain placed on independent retailers:

“For so many small, ‘tweener’ stores like us across Michigan, it’s a huge burden because we are taking on more cans than we actually sell. And we are paying for employee labor to process it, maintenance of the machines and the return area, and the lost floor space we cannot use to serve our customers.

Additionally, the cost of the machines is unreal. A machine costs approximately $40,000.00, with service fees of $600.00 per month.

What was intended to solve problems back in 1976 no longer works today. Moving recycling out of grocery stores is a starting point for modernizing recycling to meet consumer needs in 2026.”

MIRA emphasized that Michigan now has the opportunity to shift toward cleaner, more efficient curbside recycling systems that align with modern environmental and public‑health standards.
