RESOLUTION IN LOVING MEMORY
OF SHIRLEY V. LIGHTSEY
Sunrise: May 15, 1934 | Sunset: August 30, 2026
“Celebrating a Dedicated Worker, Faithful Supporter, and Friend”
WHEREAS, we pause with grateful hearts to honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Shirley V. Lightsey, whose dedication, service, humor, and generous spirit enriched the James E. Hunter Association and the many lives touched through its work; and
WHEREAS, Shirley was a dedicated worker and steadfast supporter of the James E. Hunter Association Golf Classic, faithfully lending her time, talents, influence, and numerous connections throughout the business community to help raise funds for scholarships; and
WHEREAS, Shirley understood that relationships were meant to be used for good. When the Golf Classic needed support, she was willing to make the call, reach out to a contact, and open a door on behalf of the scholarship effort; and
WHEREAS, those who worked alongside Shirley will especially remember her determined efforts to secure automobiles for the Golf Classic’s Hole-in-One contest. Chevrolet and Chrysler dealerships did not stand much of a chance once Shirley decided the tournament needed a car. With persistence, personality, and a well-established network of connections, Shirley went to work; and
WHEREAS, Shirley brought more than dedication to the Association. Her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor kept us laughing, adding joy and fellowship to the hard work of planning, fundraising, and serving others; and
WHEREAS, while we mourn the passing of Shirley on August 30, 2026, we also celebrate a life of purpose and the lasting impact of a person who willingly used her relationships, abilities, and influence to create opportunities for others;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the James E. Hunter Association extends heartfelt sympathy to the family and loved ones of Shirley V. Lightsey and joins them in celebrating a remarkable life well lived.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we will remember Shirley not only for what Shirley accomplished, but also for the laughter Shirley brought into the room, the relationships Shirley cultivated, the doors Shirley helped open, and the commitment Shirley demonstrated to providing scholarships and opportunities for future generations. When the next Golf Classic is held, when another scholarship is awarded, and when someone begins wondering where we might find that special Hole-in-One automobile, we will surely smile and remember: “Shirley would have known exactly who to call.” May the memory of Shirley V. Lightsey continue to inspire the James E. Hunter Association to serve with dedication, give generously, build relationships, and always make room for a little laughter along the way.
Respectfully submitted this 25 day of September, 2026
