Armed Forces Day is a national observance honoring the men and women serving in all branches of the U.S. military, from the Army to the Space Force. It reflects their role in safeguarding liberty, supporting global stability, and serving with valor and devotion. Created in 1949 after the National Security Act unified the armed services, it was proclaimed by President Harry S. Truman to replace separate branch-specific days, with the first celebration held in 1950 under the theme “Teamed for Defense.”

The day was founded by Military Brats Inc. in 2016 and falls in April because it is the Month of the Military Child. Although their parents are often known for their sacrifices, it is the children of these families who often get forgotten. This is why it is important that they have a day of their own and know that they are appreciated by many.

Although it is not an official holiday, it is recognized as a day of the year. There are many famous military brats, including Amy Adams, Shaquille O’Neal, Pam Grier, Ray Allen, Jessica Alba, and Reese Witherspoon, among others. In the same way that veterans have their dedicated day, National Military Brats Day is a time to give a little back to the young ones who are giving so much of themselves in the name of serving the country.

Air Force Reserve Birthday is observed on April 14 every year. After the ‘U.S. Air Force’ was established as a separate branch of service, the ‘Air Force Reserve’ was born. Its mission is to provide combat-ready forces to ‘Fly, Fight and Win.’ Reservists play a crucial part in the Department of Defense’s strategy for manpower, global reach, and military flexibility. This day celebrates those who have taken the courageous decision to answer the call of duty. They embody the values of integrity, service before self, and excellence that deserves to be celebrated not just for a day but the whole year-round.

The terms Gold Star family, Gold Star Spouses, and Gold Star Wives traditionally refer to the surviving loved ones of military members who lost their lives in the line of duty. Gold Star Spouses Day was created to honor these loved ones.

This recognition of the sacrifices made by military spouses is a memorial for the fallen, a remembrance day for the survivors, and an appreciation for those who are sometimes in danger of being overlooked for their support and service to the country.

National Medal of Honor Day is observed every year on March 25 and is dedicated to Medal of Honor Recipients. Each branch of the U.S. military awards the Medal of Honor to those who have distinguished themselves “conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity” above and beyond the call of duty, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs official site.

National Medal of Honor Day will be observed on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.

The Medal of Honor is awarded only to military members; it is awarded by Congress and is also known as the Congressional Medal of Honor. National Medal of Honor Day is a time to remember the sacrifices of men and women in uniform who have earned this highest of military honors.

Rosie the Riveter Day is an observation honoring the hard work and sacrifices American women made in the workplace during World War Two.

During this time, women across the nation traded their pre-war activities for work in factories, electronics, welding facilities and many other industries supporting the American war effort. Some five million civilian women took over what used to be thought of stereotypically as “man’s work,” joining some 350,000 women who served during World War Two in uniform.
