Today you would have been 15.
I catch myself wondering who you would be by now. What music you’d play too loud in your room. What shows you’d be obsessed with. Whether you’d still love the same little things you loved when you were 6... dancing around the house, drawing your fashions for hours, stopping to pet every animal you saw.
I wonder if you would still be as fiercely loyal to the people you loved as you already were back then. You had such a kind heart, the kind that noticed when someone felt left out or sad. Even so little, you loved so big.
Would you be musical? A soccer player? A competitive dancer? All of them? Would your room be covered in sketches and paint and fabric and half-finished projects? Would you still make friends everywhere you went?
I wonder what your voice would sound like now. How tall you’d be. What your laugh would sound like at 15. What dreams you’d be chasing. Would your your hair long or short?
It’s strange missing someone you never got the chance to fully know. There’s the little girl I remember so clearly, and then there’s this whole person you never got the chance to become.
I wish we could have met her.
Happy 15th birthday, Emma. You are loved, remembered, and missed every single day. Please please please come visit me in my dreams. Love you.
