The Hope Center of North Mississippi

The Hope Center of North Mississippi Bringing together the resources of our community to help foster growth in at-risk students. We have no building and no paid employees.

The ongoing mission of The Hope Center is to mentor and empower at-risk youth, with a focus on 5th-7th grades, in North Mississippi and provide a safe place for them to play, learn, and grow. The Hope Center endeavors to come alongside our youth to encourage, strengthen, and build character so they can become life-giving adults and productive citizens in their families and our communities.

The H

ope Center is a registered non-profit organization with a 501(c)3 status. We have been blessed to be invited into local schools and churches to be where the need is most prevalent. Our program is staffed by volunteers in the local community who have a passion for reaching the most vulnerable students. All of our events are at no cost to the students we serve. Our activities are sponsored through private and corporate donations. We are also an official Affiliate of the Mentor Memphis Grizzlies Foundation. Every dime we get is used to bring the activities, events, and materials to the youth in our community.

We focus on group mentoring and 1:1 mentoring of students in 5th-7th grades as we believe this is a transitional age that faces the most challenges. Our mentoring team works with these students to give them a voice and to help them navigate through these trying times. The benefits of mentorship are great, and much needed in today's climate and have been documented to reduce gang violence, increase leadership skills, reduce bullying, and increase school performance and citizenship. We have big plans for our future and would love for you to partner with us in our journey as a mentee, mentor, volunteer, sponsor, or with prayer. The Hope Center is a beautiful, positive, upbeat addition to North Mississippi. Its place in the community enhances opportunities for our youth and provides skills and leadership training for the next generation. Donations can be mailed to The Hope Center, 1709 Linden Drive, Nesbit, Ms. 38651. Please make checks payable to The Hope Center. A donation receipt letter will be mailed to all donors. At The Hope Center of North Mississippi, we believe every young person deserves a champion, a mentor, and an opportunity to discover their God-given purpose.

As an award-winning mentoring organization and a Silver Affiliate of the Mentor Memphis Grizzlies Foundation, we are committed to equipping future leaders through mentoring, leadership development, community engagement, and life-changing experiences.

Our Youth Leadership Conferences bring together some of the most respected leaders, business professionals, educators, first responders, elected officials, pastors, and community influencers in our region to invest directly into the next generation. These events provide young people with practical leadership skills, encouragement, mentorship, and the confidence to make a positive impact in their schools, families, and communities.

Everything we do is centered around one mission: helping young people discover hope, purpose, leadership, and a brighter future.

We invite community leaders, businesses, churches, schools, and individuals to partner with us as we continue changing lives across North Mississippi.

Together, we are equipping future leaders and building stronger communities.

🚨 PARENTS, TAKE NOTICE 🚨

Beginning July 1, 2026, Mississippi's new Senate Bill 2710 significantly strengthens penalties for firearm-related crimes and increases accountability for offenders.

Key Provisions:

• Juveniles under 18 who commit a violent crime with a firearm will be charged in Circuit Court and prosecuted as adults, unless the court orders otherwise.

• Transferring or selling a stolen firearm now carries enhanced penalties. If that firearm is later used in a violent crime, offenders can face a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 40 years in prison.

• Willfully firing into a crowd or gathering of two or more people is now a felony punishable by:

A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 15 years in prison

Fines up to $10,000

✅ Signed into law by the Governor
📅 Effective July 1, 2026

As your Sheriff, I want every parent and guardian to understand the seriousness of this law. The days of treating armed violence as youthful misconduct are over. A teenager who chooses to pick up a gun and commit a violent crime may now face adult consequences that can follow them for the rest of their life.

Have the conversation now. Teach accountability. Teach responsibility. Make sure your children understand that one poor decision involving a firearm can cost them their freedom, their future, and career opportunities that can never be recovered.

It is far better to educate your children about the criminal justice system before they become a part of it. Parents are the first and most important teachers of right and wrong, and those lessons matter. Children should enjoy their youth without destroying their future!

A split-second decision can lead to decades behind bars. The most important conversation you have with your child today may determine whether they walk across a graduation stage today—or stand before a judge in a courtroom tomorrow.

This message is for every lawbreaker—juvenile or adult—whether you live here, come here, or pass through here: if you bring criminal behavior into this county, expect consequences.

Sheriff Thomas E. Tuggle II
