🎃🍂 Happy National Pumpkin Day! 🍂🎃
The word, "pumpkin" is derived from a the Wôpanâak word "pôhpukun," which means "grows forth round." Pumpkins aren't just a fall favorite—they've been a vital part of Indigenous agriculture for centuries. Did you know that pumpkins, along with corn and beans, are part of the "Three Sisters" planting method, a traditional technique used by the Wampanoag and many other Indigenous peoples?
This National Pumpkin Day, we're celebrating the resilience of our food traditions and the role pumpkins continue to play in Wampanoag culture. Whether you're carving one, making a pie, or just enjoying their vibrant presence, let's honor this beautiful harvest season!
