Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. For us on the East End, the Montauk Lighthouse is participating in the Light Up MBC Campaign today from 6-10pm. The lighthouse will be lit up in teal, green and pink.
Metastatic breast cancer (Stage 4) occurs when cancer spreads beyond the breast and currently has no cure. For patients diagnosed with MBC, this means they will be on ongoing chemotherapy treatments until the side effects are too harmful to continue or the treatments are no longer working.
The green, teal, and pink ribbon was created to ensure those living with Stage 4 are visibly represented beyond traditional early-stage awareness. Teal represents healing, green represents hope and pink signifies that the cancer originated in the breast. For many in the metastatic community, seeing landmarks illuminated in these colors is a powerful symbol of visibility, hope, and progress.
LightUpMBC Campaign is the world’s largest visual awareness initiative for metastatic breast cancer where landmarks across the world illuminate in the metastatic breast cancer awareness colors of green, teal and pink on the evening of October 13, 2026, in recognition of National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
