As The Make a Difference Children's Foundation carries out its mission, it offers opportunities for American children to get involved in projects that help other children and empower them with the knowledge that through their actions, they are never too young to make a difference. We also customize projects for groups and organizations that want to get involved and help us make an impact. Why we are needed: Hunger is the number 1 cause of death in the world, killing more than HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. 123 million youth aged 15 to 24 lack basic reading and writing skills; 61 % of them are girls. The highest rates of child mortality are still in sub-Saharan Africa – where 1 in 9 children die before age 5. Education remains one of the most powerful instruments for breaking the cycle of poverty.
