Great news from Greenport!
Keep the good ideas rolling!👏

There is no one silver bullet to address the shortage of housing for our human infrastructure. It has to be approached from multiple directions sales, rentals, short-term rentals, multiple units allowed on individual lots, ADU ‘s, and so on.

Greenport residents and business owners have been making sure their voices are heard by the planning board at meetings and through surveys.

We LOVE this!

$70K plus a lot of blood, sweat, and tears turned this garage into a tiny home with a sleeping loft, full kitchen, walk-in closet, and “fairly sizable” bathroom.

🧠 BREAK THE STIGMA: Why Mental Health Matters 🧠

Mental health is health. Here’s why it’s time to end the silence and shame:

💬 1. Encourages people to seek help
No one should suffer in silence. Ending stigma means more people get support early—before things spiral.

🛑 2. Prevents crises
Mental health struggles can worsen when ignored. Breaking stigma saves lives.

🧍🏽‍♀️ 3. Normalizes mental health
It’s just as important as physical health. No shame. No blame.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 4. Builds stronger relationships
Open conversations = deeper trust + more support.

🏫 5. Stops discrimination at work & school
Everyone deserves dignity, understanding, and opportunity.

🧒🏽 6. Helps kids grow emotionally strong
When we teach children mental health is normal, we build resilient generations.

🧩 7. Creates inclusive communities
Everyone should feel seen, safe, and supported.

🚫 8. Challenges harmful stereotypes
Mental illness doesn’t define anyone. People are more than a diagnosis.

✨ Let’s break the stigma—for ourselves, our families, and our future.

The public meeting process has "spoiled" some residents in several of our townships and villages, giving them the impression that they have the "veto powe" for anything that they don't like, agree with, or might believe some conspiracy theory about.
Sure, town and village boards DO make errors n judgement, resulting in unintended consequences from time to time.
It's not easy to be an elected official in today's political environment. The rhetoric has gotten nastier and much more severe, since the mental health crisis brought on by the pandemic.
Just look at some of our townships, where their decision making has been hijacked by small groups of virulent residents, resulting in major lawsuits and damaged relationships with the residents that elected them.
Playing politics is not fun. Let's work together on initiatives like Town Square so we can arrive at the best possible outcome!

The Riverhead Town Board unanimously voted Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 5 to designate J. Petrocelli Riverhead Town Square LLC qualified and eligible to construct the new Town Square on East Main Street and an adjacent five-story hotel with restaurants and shops on the ground floor. The town board had pi...
