Penn-Tammany Greenway Coalition

Penn-Tammany Greenway Coalition Our Mission: To advance the utilization of Septa's Fox Chase - Newtown line as a recreational trail Address: P.O.

We are a grassroots organization comprised of residents in Upper Southampton, Northampton, and Newtown Township who are interested in utilizing a portion of SEPTA's Fox Chase - Newtown line as a multi-use recreational trail. We believe that a trail/greenway will provide year-round recreational opportunities such as: biking, jogging, hiking, birding, nature study, and cross country skiing. We also

believe there is an opportunity, unique to many rails to trails projects, to provide an interconnected trail network, which will provide a connection to parks, shopping districts, restaurants, schools, churches, neighborhoods, local bus routes, and places of employment. By using a trail as a form of active transportation, we take cars off the road and effectively help to reduce emissions. Our Vision
The Penn-Tammany Greenway will provide a first-rate recreational experience for our local community and tourists. It will be a premier, multi-use, non-motorized trail that becomes a destination in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The greenway will highlight our natural, cultural, and railroad heritage while providing a fun, safe, healthy connector between neighboring communities and parks. Box 201 Southampton, PA 18966

Progress begins on the southern tail of the greenway. In 2 years you will be able to ride continuously from the Churchville Nature Center to the Fox Chase train station. This day is the combination of a vision I had to connect my current hometown of Southampton to the best neighborhood in the City where I grew up and the assistance of some great volunteers and neighbors along the way! Next stop Newtown!

We were asked specifically by Paul Gordon, Senior Planner with the Bucks County Planning Commission, to pass along the following message regarding the upcoming Trail Construction, which is scheduled to begin Monday July 6th

Good afternoon residents:

The day is finally here! Construction of the Newtown Rail Trail within Upper Southampton Township, between County Line Road and Bristol Road, will begin on Monday, July 6, 2020. Please bear in mind that this date may change due to weather and/or other circumstances. However, this is the date that the contractor has indicated that construction activities will begin.

At this time, we are waiting for additional construction schedule information and will share it with you as soon as we have it. The initial step in the construction process will be the removal of the railroad ties.

As a reminder, we ask that residents stay off the rail corridor during the construction process as there will be heavy equipment and trucks along the corridor during the process.

Please contact Rich Brahler or Paul Gordon at the Bucks County Planning Commission (215) 345-3400 with any questions.

The Bucks County Planning Commission has requested that we share the following information. Please keep in mind the previous safety notification is only effective for the new construction areas from Byberry Road North................................
After a competitive bidding process, The Bucks County Commissioners signed a resolution awarding a contract, in the amount of $2,349,580.25, to James D. Morrissey, Philadelphia, PA to construct the Newtown Rail Trail.

· Construction will be funded via tax dollars allocated to PennDOT’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) specifically allocated to fund trail projects on the Circuit.

· A pre-construction meeting with the contractor has been scheduled for 6/22 at which we will be requesting a timeline outlining key dates relative to construction.

· We anticipate construction to start in July 2020.

· Pennoni Associates, a Philadelphia-based engineering firm, will be overseeing the construction management of the trail on a daily basis.

The Bucks County Planning Commission has asked us to pass along a message to all those interested in the trail.
The Bucks County Planning Commission is requesting that everyone refrain from using the trail during the construction process. Construction will begin earnestly in July and because of the narrowness of the corridor there will be safety hazards. No trespassing signs will be posted. Please adhere to this caution for your safety and that of the workers. We will all be able to enjoy the trail in the near future!
