IAPS Transition – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why is IAPS making these changes?
The Board has spent several years carefully reviewing how to best serve the international pastel community.
After research, consultation, and discussion, the Board unanimously agreed that focusing on direct support for
member societies, artists, and educational initiatives is the most impactful way forward.
What will IAPS focus on in the future?
IAPS will concentrate on:
• Educational Support – grants, learning opportunities, and related initiatives.
• Online Programming – virtual exhibitions, web-based shows, and new forms of digital engagement.
In addition, IAPS will continue to operate:
• The Honors Program
• The IAPS Website
• Its Social Media Presence
What is happening with the IAPS Convention?
The final Biennial Convention will take place in 2026. After this event, the convention will conclude. While we
know many will miss this special gathering, IAPS will redirect its energy and resources to programs that directly
benefit pastel societies and artists worldwide.
How will this affect member societies?
Member pastel societies will remain at the heart of IAPS’s mission. Societies will benefit from increased
educational support, opportunities for online exhibitions, and expanded visibility through IAPS’s web and social
media platforms.
How will this affect individual artists?
Artists will continue to have opportunities to participate in virtual exhibitions, earn recognition through the
Honors Program, and benefit from educational initiatives supported by IAPS.
Will IAPS still be active internationally?
Yes. IAPS remains an international organization dedicated to the advancement of the pastel medium and to
connecting societies and artists across the globe.
Is IAPS closing?
No. IAPS is not closing. While the convention will end after 2026, the organization is redirecting its focus to
ensure its mission continues in impactful and sustainable ways.
How will updates be shared?
