Congratulations! Lt. Gen. Stayce D. Harris achieved history as the first Black woman to serve as a three-star general in the U.S. Air Force and the first Black female lieutenant general in its entire history.
She also became the top-ranking Black woman in the Department of Defense at retirement. Raised in Los Angeles by a single mother who worked multiple jobs, Harris grew up in a modest, challenging environment.
Harris overcame skepticism and limited opportunities in aviation to command at every level, including as the Air Force Inspector General. Her trailblazing service embodies resilience and excellence.
