DIVESTMENT VICTORY! The Michigan Treasury has divested all directly held Israel Bonds from the State of Michigan Retirement System (SMRS), which manages $115B for over 500,000 public employees, one of the largest retirement systems in the country. This massive win follows a year-long campaign by Michigan residents, public employees, and over 50 supporting organizations, of which JVP was honored to stand and organize alongside. Supported by union resolutions and public pressure, Michigan Divest authored a petition in October with over 2200 signatures to the Michigan Treasury demanding non-reinvestment.

Israel Bonds are loans from individuals and institutions to the Israeli treasury, making up to 25% of Israel’s foreign debt and significantly supporting Israel’s economy. Divesting from these bonds would disrupt the flow of funds to the Israeli government, interrupting “business as usual” — including the business of Israel’s apartheid regime and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

SMRS has effectively ended a 30-year relationship with Israel Bonds, responding to community activists’ campaign. It is incredible news that financial officers agree with concerned Michiganians: risky, poor-performing, and inflexible Israel Bonds are not a good investment for our communities.

This is a massive win that comes as part of a wave of decisions by states across the US to divest or not re-invest in Israel Bonds. We will continue to send a clear message to our political leaders that we will no longer tolerate their use of Israel Bonds as an investment. Now more than ever, backing Israel Bonds, and the violence their economy sustains, is not just a moral failure but a financial one as well.

ETHNIC CLEANSING OF PALESTINE 🇵🇸 AND GENOCIDE IS NOT ONLY HAPPENING IN GAZA BUT ALL OVER OCCUPIED PALESTINE‼️

The Israeli occupation army detained at least 30 Palestinians in military raids across the occupied West Bank, prisoners’ affairs groups said on Tuesday, Anadolu reports.

In a joint statement, the Palestinian Prisoner Society and the Commission of Detainees’ Affairs said the arrests were part of “systematic collective punishment” under Israel’s ongoing war.

The statement said the raids included field interrogations and were concentrated in Al-Fawwar refugee camp in Hebron, while others took place in Ramallah, Bethlehem, Nablus, Tubas, Salfit, Tulkarem, and Qalqilya.

Among those detained were three former prisoners from Qalqilya who had been released in the most recent prisoner swap in January and February this year.

The groups said the re-arrest of freed prisoners, especially those released in swaps, reflects “a deliberate policy aimed at keeping them under constant threat and persecution, in clear violation of the deal.”

Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and the West Bank on Oct. 7, 2023, more than 18,000 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank, the statement noted. This figure does not include the thousands arrested in Gaza, and covers both those still held and those later released.
