⭐️FOSTER NEEDED⭐️ 🐾SPECKS IS STILL WAITING FOR HER HAPPY EVER AFTER 🐾
Specks and her sister Dottie were found hiding in the hills of Rio Rico after a storm. They were wet, cold, shivering, hungry, and frightened, tucked beneath a low-growing bush as though they were trying to disappear.
When a homeowner approached, the girls didn't run. Instead, they cautiously pancake-crawled toward their finder, then rolled onto their bellies for affection. Even frightened and exhausted, these two sweet girls wanted to trust. ❤️
They were a little underweight, and because the storms had brought strong wind and rain through the area, everyone hoped they had simply escaped from a nearby home. Surely someone would be searching for these lovely young dogs.
But no one came.
Specks and Dottie were brought to Santa Cruz County Animal Care & Control, where shelter life was overwhelming. The barking, unfamiliar people, small kennels, and constant noise frightened them. At first, the sisters found comfort by curling up together.
Because both growing puppies needed to gain weight—and had a habit of helping themselves to each other's meals—they eventually had to be placed in separate kennels. They adjusted and began eating better, but suddenly each girl was facing shelter life without her sister beside her.
Then recently, Dottie was rescued. ❤️
We are so happy for Dottie—but Specks is still waiting.
And now her sister is gone too.
Specks is a wonderfully soft-hearted young girl. She is gentle, passive, affectionate, eager to please, and quick to learn. The shelter noise still frightens her, but she takes comfort from the people who visit and handle her. She enjoys giving and receiving affection and has been friendly with the other shelter dogs she has met.
She is also discovering that a leash can mean something wonderful: getting outside. 🌿
Away from the barking and stress, Specks can breathe, explore, learn, and begin showing more of the puppy she really is. She responds especially well to positive reinforcement—kind words, praise, patience, and, of course, treats!
Specks could blossom in a calm, loving, easygoing home where someone gives her the security and confidence she needs. Imagine taking her along for walks, car rides, errands, hikes and road trips—and then coming home to spend a lazy afternoon together in the yard or curled up on the couch.
She is still just a young girl with so much life ahead of her.
Specks doesn't need perfection. She needs someone who will make her feel safe. Someone who will show her that this time, when she becomes part of a family, she gets to stay.
In return, we think this sweet girl will give that person everything she has—her trust, her loyalty, and her whole heart. ❤️
🏡 Come meet Specks at Santa Cruz County Animal Care and Control in Nogales, Arizona. She can be adopted directly from the shelter!
Hours: Monday–Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Evening and weekend visits may sometimes be available by appointment.
Please don't wait too long. This is a very small county shelter that can fill quickly, and dogs can become urgent when space is needed for incoming animals.
Dottie got her second chance. Now let's make sure Specks gets hers.
