Oceanaires Chorus

Oceanaires Chorus A men's a cappella chorus singing in the four-part barbershop harmony style. Ritchie Lavene.

The Oceanaires Barbershop Chorus is one of nearly 700 choruses throughout the United States and Canada chartered by the Barbershop Harmony Society (“BHS”) which has its home office in Nashville, TN. The North American organization of BHS was incorporated in 1938 and today is comprised of nearly 23,000 singers. Each chorus selects its own repertoire of ballads, classic melodies, Broadway hits, main

stream music and patriotic songs, all to be performed in traditional “Barbershop Harmony” style. Today we have twenty-three singing members, with always the hopes of attracting new members. The talents and love of our singing hobby are constantly being enhanced with the instruction and direction of our renowned barbershop chorus Music Director, Mr. Ritchie has been a part of the barbershop chorus culture for over twenty-five years as a quartet and chorus singer, chorus director, music coach, and accredited Society competition judge. As good as we are judged to be today, we always have our sights aimed at higher ground. We meet weekly in Bayville for two and a half hour rehearsals, along with a half-hour that is set aside for business matters and some relaxing conversation time with other guys in the chorus. Our singers are committed to support the achievement of our strategic goals which are: (1) to be our personal best every time we sing; (2) to grow our membership; (3) to have well-planned enjoyable weekly rehearsals for singing, taking care of chorus business matters, and some open time for conversation with our friends in the chorus; (4) to support a manageable number of worthwhile non-profit endeavors with our singing.

What a fantastic audience we had yesterday! We love singing for this community. The residents enthusiastically came out to enjoy our performance, and when they ran out of seats in the room, some still stayed to listen from the hallway! We’re looking forward to returning to Harrogate later this year to share some holiday joy!
Thank you for having us, Harrogate Village!

Let’s start the day with some musical humor? 😜 https://fb.watch/GFKbY327yP/?mibextid=wwXIfr&fs=e

In all seriousness, humming gently engages the vocal cords without strain, making it an ideal practice for warming up the voice and cultivating vocal resonance. So why not try some chick peas?!

‼️UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION — DATE CHANGE!‼️

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our longtime Oceanaires brother, Robert Sorino.

Rob was a cherished member of our chorus for many years and someone whose presence will be profoundly missed. As a lead, he was known for his crisp, clean sound and strong, confident voice that could fill a room and touch the heart. He loved quartetting and sharing music with others, always bringing joy and connection through song.

Beyond his musical contributions, Rob gave tirelessly of his time and energy. He served on the chorus board and devoted countless hours behind the scenes, including his work on the chorus newsletter, Ocean Sound, and many other administrative efforts that helped keep our organization strong. His dedication and reliability made a lasting impact on all of us.

Those who knew Rob also knew his kindness. He was the kind of person who would do anything for anyone, always putting others first and making people feel welcome and valued. He brought people together, not only in music but in life, and his spirit of warmth and generosity defined him.

Rob’s love for his family was at the center of everything. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Ella, who was a constant and beloved presence at rehearsals and chorus events, always offering her own time and support. He also leaves behind his daughters, Robin and Melissa, his son in law Steven, his cherished grandchildren Steven Jr. and Mia, and his brothers Fred and Joseph. Our hearts are especially with Ella and the entire Sorino family during this difficult time.

‼️UPDATED‼️
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, from 4 - 8 PM at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 23, at 10 AM at St. John’s Church, 619 Chestnut Street, Lakehurst, NJ 08733, followed by interment at Saint Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Honey Locust Drive, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Then, following the interment, friends and family will come together for a repass to celebrate Rob's blessed and beautiful life at Three B's Bar and Bistro, 14 NJ-70, Lakehurst, NJ 08733.

Rob brought light, laughter, and music into our lives. His voice, his kindness, and his unwavering commitment to this chorus will never be forgotten. We will carry his memory with us in every chord we sing and every moment we share together.

Rest peacefully, Rob. You will always be part of the Oceanaires family.

Just 7 years ago... Seems like another millennia!
So much has changed! So much hasn't. We are still the best way a guy can spend his evening (currently meeting on THURSDAYS for rehearsals at the Bayville Elks Lodge #2394)! Especially now that football season is over! 😄
