Growing Community Connections

Growing Community Connections Growing Community Connections provides opportunities to children and families through community reso

Collective impact is the commitment of a group of actors from different sectors to a common agenda for addressing a specific social or environmental problem. Traditionally, efforts to address problems have focused on “isolated impact” – scaling or replicating single approaches, initiatives or organizations. Collective impact argues that this approach is inadequate for many problems. It provides a

framework for actors from business, government, health, education, and civil society to align and coordinate their efforts to create large-scale, lasting, systems-level social change. Dakota County Connections is a community collaborative in Dakota County, Nebraska that unites partners from many different community agencies for the single purpose of improving the quality of life and social-emotional well-being of children and families in the community. The combined expertise and resources of the community partners, the financial and professional support of Nebraska Children & Families Foundation, and the facilitation and fiscal services provided by Siouxland Human Investment Partnership ensure a successful organization that is having an impact on families. Mission Statement
The mission of the collaboration is: “Our children will have a safe school environment, clear mind (free of drugs and violence), access to mental health resources, family or source for psychosocial development in early childhood for school readiness, network of caring adults that link family, school and community.”

Help Build a Better Future for Nebraska—Apply for the Policy Leadership Academy Today

Recruitment for the 2026-2027 Nebraska Early Childhood Policy Leader-ship Academy (PLA) cohort is underway! FFN is accepting applications through June 12.

PLA is Nebraska's premier nonpartisan leadership development program aimed at preparing advocates to take an active role in shaping policies that affect the early care, education, and healthy development of young children.

It's built on the belief that thoughtful, committed people can change the world—especially when equipped with the skills, tools, and knowledge to advocate effectively and adapt in a constantly evolving political and social landscape.

PLA brings together community members and professionals to build advocacy skills, explore how policy is shaped, and identify how their leadership can drive impact and influence decision-making at the legislative level.

Visit the PLA webpage to learn more about the program, which begins in October 2026 and ends in March 2027. You'll learn who should apply, what participants will learn, the topics of workshops, how to apply, and more.

Questions are encouraged. Reach out to PLA Facilitator Jodi-Renee Girón with questions or for help navigating the application process.

We had a wonderful time at our Child Care Business Lunch & Learn on May 20th!

Thank you to all the businesses, community leaders, child care providers, and partners who joined us for meaningful conversations about the importance of child care in supporting our workforce, families, and local economy.

Together, we explored challenges, shared ideas, and discussed ways we can continue building solutions that strengthen our community for children and families. We are grateful to everyone who took time out of their day to be part of this important conversation.

A special thank you to our presenters and attendees for helping make the day such a success. Collaboration like this is how positive change happens!

☀️ Summer is here, and so is the sunshine! Don’t forget to protect your skin while enjoying the outdoors.

Experts recommend wearing sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days, and using SPF 30 or higher. The sun’s rays are strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., so reapplying sunscreen, seeking shade, and wearing hats or sunglasses can help keep your skin safe.

It’s also important to check your skin regularly for any unusual spots or changes. Early detection matters!

Take a few extra minutes this summer to protect the skin you’re in. 💛

The summer sun is shining, but don’t forget your sunscreen.
