Dominick Solazzo An advocate for for coastal conservation and environmental education.

To my friends, family and neighbors: I find myself again in a very unique situation. I am present here in the midst of the covid-19 crisis as an owner of a small business, as the head of a family and as a board member of a condominium association that operates a public/private beach. The interests of each one of the roles I serve may seem to be different at first glance but I assure you in the end they are not.

As a business owner we want to offer products and services to our customers in ways that provide them with value while ensuring a safe and comfortable purchasing experience. This is something our customers want and this is something my family wants.

Deb and I look to protect our family unit doing our best to keep them healthy with a safe balance of work and family fun. Shore And More will shortly post our operational rules. These rules will be our best chance to open and protect our family and the customers that choose to continue to do business with us.

My role as a fiduciary puts me and the other members of the board of directors of the Midway Beach Condo Association in positions to set protocols to protect the association as well as the public at large.

I represent 385 unit owners property here in Midway Beach. As someone in charge of the daily operations of the property including the beach there are countless considerations that need to be made to protect the interests of the association and the public who uses the beach and our property.

The covid-19 crisis has magnified the need to ensure that decisions are made in ways that protect the public. There are countless liabilities that present themselves to myself as well as the association. If we fail to act in ways that serve the public good and or show gross negligence I would be personally liable. No level of insurance will cover gross negligence in the decisions or lack of decisions I make with regards to public health.

As the beaches open and everyone’s excitement levels continue to escalate with the approaching summer we could only expect people to flock to the beaches. We all want to feel the wonders of nature and escape from this horrible nightmare of the past three months.

It is quite important to remember though that when coming to the beach nothing has changed! We are still dealing with a pandemic.

So the message here is simple: PLEASE FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES!

Please follow the rules set forth by the state, the municipality, the small business, this family and the Midway Beach Condo Association.

If at any level we (those burdened with administration and making the rules of engagement) cannot safely enforce the rules because of the public’s lack of compliance the rules will change and the privileges will be lost. This is not some experiment that we should take lightly. If we fail we will lose.

Please follow the rules, especially social distancing within all of the property of the Midway Beach Condo Association, all the streets and towns at the Jersey Shore, all the backyards, all the businesses everywhere. Complaining won’t help but following the rules will. Social distancing non-compliance is the easiest to observe and will serve as the catalyst for change in the wrong direction.

Respectfully,

Dominick

In order to stem the increasing tide of public use its with heavy hearts the MBCA board of directors has decided to close Midway Beach until further notice. With all other beaches on the peninsula already closed except Midway Beach and Berkeley Beach it became apparent yesterday that the public was becoming aware of this. This decision was made to protect the association as well as the health of all MBCA unit owners and the public at large.

I am proud to announce publicly for the first time that I started a 501c3 non-profit called Shifting Sands. My intent many years ago was to ensure that the dunes in Midway Beach would always have an advocate as well as the financial resources necessary to be maintained long after I was gone. In the arduous process of developing this organization I saw the necessity and opportunity to support coastal conservation and education not only in Midway Brach but through out New Jersey. Please continue to support our efforts of coastal stewardship by liking and sharing this page, volunteering in our "beach grass-roots" programs, supporting us with your professional services and or donating money to help further our mission. We are looking for interns to help with digital and social media. Please reach out to me directly at 732-213-7939, [email protected]. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Sincerely,
Dominick Solazzo

High tide October 3rd in Ortley Beach. The temporary sand berm so far is hold back the ocean but as you can see the ocean is trying to push through.

This is the discharge from the pumping station on 8th Ave this morning during the rain storm. According to the NJDOT from a previous press release/public information statement the coloration of the water is a result of silt build up from the construction project. I don't believe that is the case. The pumps run even when there is no rain indicating the system is not water tight and that it takes on ground water. Not good
