KIWANIS WELCOMES HECTOR CAMACHO, SAN MATEO COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT - ELECT OF SCHOOLS

We were honored to welcome Hector Camacho as our guest speaker at the Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco! His presentation was engaging, informative, and thought-provoking, and we especially enjoyed the lively discussion that followed.

Hector’s messageβ€”that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and thrive, and that students do best when educators and communities work togetherβ€”strongly aligns with the Kiwanis mission of serving children and strengthening our communities. πŸ’™
We’re proud to share that commitment through our youth programs, student scholarships, and Kiwanis Book Buddies literacy initiative, helping put books into the hands of young readers and inspiring a love of reading. πŸ“–β€οΈ

A heartfelt thank-you to Hector for sharing his time, insights, and vision with us. And Kristy, it was wonderful having you join us, too!

We look forward to staying connected and hope to welcome you both back again soon!

We were excited to have Ben Pettigrew joining us as Guest Speaker on October 13. Ben spoke about a very timely and thought provoking topic:

"AI CIRCULAR FINANCING AND TRUST THE TECH BROS TO POLICE THEMSELVES???"

Ben is the Managing Partner at Redwood Park Advisors and as an added connection to our club, he is the son of our own member, John Pettigrew.

Thank you Ben, for a fascinating, albeit, sobering presentation.

πŸ’™πŸ’› The Kiwanis Club of South San Francisco is a service organization made up of caring individuals dedicated to giving back to our community. From supporting veterans and promoting literacy through our Kiwanis Book Buddies program, to awarding scholarships and assisting local children and families, we are committed to making a positive difference - one project at a time.

Today, our club was proud to donate much-needed items, pillows, towels, wash cloths, and sheet sets to the Veterans Village in Colma. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Seeing first-hand the impact of these donations was a wonderful reminder of what can be accomplished when a community comes together.

Interested in volunteer work? We’d love to have you join us! For more information email [email protected].

We had another successful Garage Sale fundraiser on Saturday, September 26, 2026! πŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to Patrick Cheng for organizing this annual event once again. It takes a lot of work behind the scenes to make an event like this happen, and Patrick did a wonderful job!

A special thank you to all the members who came out and worked from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.β€”setting up, selling, collecting money, helping customers, cleaning up, and tearing everything down at the end of the day.

Many thanks to Bill Benavides, Pan Bauer, Vera Ginotti, Yolanda Gonzalez, Vince Jones, Jim Kaestner, John Pettigrew, and Sara Watson for rolling up their sleeves and helping make the day a success. Dan and Ruth De Nardi stopped by and brought bags of clothing to sell, and thank you to everyone who donated items for the sale.

It was truly another great example of Kiwanis teamwork! πŸ’™

And we can’t forget the fuel that kept our hardworking crew going! β˜•πŸ₯ Bill Benevides started the morning by bringing coffee and pastries, and Dave Parenti generously donated ten delicious sandwiches from Teani’s Deli for our hungry workers. Thank you both!

All of the profits make a difference in our community - whether it goes toward another student scholarship, books for children, food baskets for families, or supporting our veterans.

That is what Kiwanis is all about: working together, having fun, and giving back to our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped make another Garage Sale a success. Great teamwork, Kiwanians! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

πŸ“š Kiwanis Members Hard at Work! πŸ“š

Our Kiwanis members rolled up their sleeves during a recent lunch meeting to stamp and prepare books for students as part of our Kiwanis Book Buddies literacy project.

These books are almost ready to find their way into the hands of students, where they can be read, enjoyed, shared with family and friends, and kept for their very own!

We’re excited to put books directly into the hands of children and help make reading more accessible, fun, and inspiring. πŸ“–β€οΈ
A big thank you to our hardworking Kiwanians for turning a lunch meeting into a little literacy assembly line! πŸ˜‰
