Utah AABL "The Utah AABL mission is simple. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for men 18 and over to play hard competitive baseball. The Utah AABL mission is simple.

There are four different age divisions, 18+, 30+, 40+ and we are a strictly wood bat league. We are all wanna be’s, has been’s, never were’s, but for those three hours we are not married, we have no kids, we don’t have bills, and we don’t have jobs. We are at bat, or on the mound, in the bottom of the 9th with two outs and the bases loaded.

Ty Cobb with Shoeless Joe Jackson.

Years after being banned from baseball, Shoeless Joe was visited by Ty Cobb at his liquor store. After making his purchase, Cobb asked "Don't you know me, Joe?" Jackson replied, "Sure, I know you, Ty, but I wasn't sure you wanted to know me. A lot of them don't."

The "Ted Williams shift" became such a prominent part of baseball strategy during Williams' career that in 1959, the Fleer baseball card company issued a card commemorating the first time it was used against him in the second game of a Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox doubleheader on July 14, 1946, in a photo we posted yesterday.

I also don't think the left fielder was playing that much, but it was Fleer's attempt to fit the shift into one card.

⚾ On This Day in 1846: The First Officially Recorded Baseball Game Is Played

On June 19, 1846, the New York Nine defeated the Knickerbockers 23–1 at Elysian Fields in Hoboken, New Jersey. Played under the Knickerbocker rules, the historic match was a significant milestone in the development of modern baseball.
