VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: WHY I SERVE
Nathaniel Lee | Deputy Chief of Medical Operations

At Rescue 101 SAR, our mission is powered by dedicated volunteers who answer the call, no matter where they are or what they’re doing. This month, we’re proud to highlight Nathaniel Lee and his reason for serving.

Nathaniel’s journey is rooted in a lifelong commitment to service. With a background spanning military and EMS, he brings both experience and leadership to every mission. But for him, it goes deeper than skill; it’s about purpose.

“It’s my duty and responsibility to answer the cry for help.”

His motivation is grounded in faith and a strong sense of calling, stepping forward when others are in need, regardless of the challenge ahead.

From leading teams in the field to working side-by-side with volunteers after long operational days, Nathaniel emphasizes what makes Rescue 101 different:

• Leadership that leads from the front
• A team that works together—on and off the mission
• A commitment to doing whatever it takes to get the job done

He’s seen firsthand the impact of showing up for communities during their worst moments:

“That could be your community, or your family, facing that nightmare. We show up because we would hope someone would do the same for us.”

Balancing life, work, and volunteering isn’t always easy, but for Nathaniel, it comes down to priorities and commitment. And despite the challenges, he continues to answer the call because of something bigger than himself:

“Knowing that I am part of something truly good… something much bigger than me.”

In one sentence—Why does Nathaniel serve?
“To serve others, no matter what.”

Thank you, Nathaniel, for your leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving others.

🎉 Happy 35th Birthday, Deputy Chief Nate Lee! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating one of our own—Nathaniel “Nate” Lee, our Deputy Chief of Medical Operations—who is spending his birthday the way he spends so many of his days… serving others.

Instead of taking the day off, Nate is currently deployed with Rescue 101 SAR in Nashville, volunteering on the front lines as a Sawyer, helping families recover from the recent storm damage. That kind of dedication speaks volumes about the man he is.

Nate, your leadership, humor, and unwavering commitment to this team and the communities we serve do not go unnoticed. Whether you're leading medical operations or running a saw in the field, you set the standard for what it means to serve.

From all of us at Rescue 101 SAR—your team, your family—
Happy Birthday, Nate!

Stay safe out there, and we’ll celebrate properly when you get home.

Operation Deep Freeze | Field Update

Today’s job is a perfect example of what our teams are facing across the area.

A large tree came down directly onto this structure, leaving it unsafe and at risk of further collapse. Our crews moved in, assessed the hazards, and began systematic removal, cutting, clearing, and making the property safe again for the homeowner.

This isn’t a one off situation.

There are dozens more just like this still on our list, families waiting, properties still unsafe, and work that needs to be done.

Every branch removed, every cut made, every structure cleared brings someone one step closer to normal.

OPERATION DEEP FREEZE (WAVE 4) - DEPLOYMENT UPDATE

Rescue 101 Search & Rescue is proud to announce that Wave 4 has officially deployed to Nashville, Tennessee, as part of Operation Deep Freeze. This deployment comes at the request of our valued partners: United Way of Greater Nashville, Hands On Nashville, and Nashville VOAD.

Our SAW Teams are hitting the ground running this morning with an initial list of 15+ requests for assistance—and that’s just the start. Over the course of this two-week deployment, our goal is to complete 150+ requests, helping families and communities recover from the devastating ice storm impacts.

From clearing dangerous trees and debris to restoring safe access to homes, our teams are committed to making a difference, one property, one family, one mission at a time.

We are incredibly proud of our volunteers who continue to answer the call, leaving their homes and families behind to serve others in their time of need.

Want to support the mission? Your donations help fuel operations, maintain equipment, and keep our teams in the field where they’re needed most.

🚨 Disaster Relief Update – Nashville, TN 🚨
Wave 3 Deployment | Rescue 101 Search & Rescue

When our team arrived at this property, the situation was overwhelming.

A large tree had collapsed directly onto the home and garage, leaving the structure unsafe and the property inaccessible. For the homeowners, it was another painful reminder of the storm’s impact and how long recovery can take.

Our team got to work.

Using technical rigging, saw teams, and coordinated ground crews, Rescue 101 SAR members carefully removed the damaged sections of the tree and cleared the debris from the roof and surrounding property.

What once looked impossible is now safe and accessible again.

This is what disaster relief looks like after the cameras leave neighbors helping neighbors, volunteers stepping up, and teams refusing to walk away from communities that still need help.

Swipe to see the before and after.

Rescue 101 SAR is a veteran led, 100% volunteer, 100% donation-funded 501(c)(3) organization, and every mission like this is made possible by the support of people who believe in what we do.

Operation Deep Freeze — Final Day 7 Recap

Today marked the final operational day of this deployment.

We set an ambitious goal of 50 jobs in one day.

We did not hit that number.

But here’s what we did accomplish:

32 completed jobs.

That surpasses our previous single-day record of 29 and sets a new team record.

Records matter, not because of numbers, but because of what they represent.

Progress is not always about hitting the exact target.
It is about pushing past where you’ve been before.

And today, this team did exactly that.

We are proud of the work.
We are grateful for the community’s trust.
We are thankful for the families and donors who made this deployment possible.

Operation Deep Freeze Wave Two closes stronger than we arrived.

Always Vigilant.
Ready For Anything.
So Others May Live.
