Sorry to say our beloved emeritus president, Charlotte Phillips has passed peacefully into that next great trail in the sky. She was predeceased by just three days by her good friend Ruth Cade. They were both in their military retirement community in TX. Charlotte was 90 years of age. I don’t know Ruth’s age.

We will go on. But we will always remember them both fondly.

After a very quiet 2020, TSVA is reopening. We will have an event in Middlebury on Columbus Day weekend, supporting a regional walking weekend. Some of our walks are available through the Online Start Box. There are still travel restrictions and a mask and social distance mandate. We can carry on walking, taking care of ourselves and others.

The AVA has permitted us to open our walks. All are referred to state COVID-19 health and safety rules and recommendations to keep everyone safe. In Vermont, we are again permitted to travel more than 10 miles from home for recreation. NH never had a mile limit for recreation. Social distancing and masks are required when you encounter others on the trails. Many of our walks are available through the Online Startbox, so you do not have to interact at an SP if you choose those walks. We appreciate your interest and support of our walks. At this time TSVA will not announce any group walks or events, but encourage individuals to enjoy our trails for personal exercise.

Due to COVID-19, the AVA has shut down all walks until the end of April. Local walkers may use the walks and trails for recreation, maintaining social distancing. Keep your walk cards until May or until things otherwise change.

Some of our seasonal will be opening in April. As many of our walks in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine are on the online start box, please go to Ava.org for details. There is still ice, snow and mud on many of our trails.

Looking forward to the Pre Convention walk in Portsmouth NH on Sunday, June 9. You can do the pre convention walks even if you do not attend the Convention in Albany. Just like a regular traditional (or volksmarch!)

I was in Montpelier this weekend assisting the POC there, and also did as much of the walk as time permitted. I wanted to get proof of our Underground RR qualifier. This is the home of Sen. Wm. Upham, known abolitionist. His home is reputed to be a stop on the URR, which is sometimes the best we can do. But look at the sign in front of his home.

These photos were taken along our Franconia Notch walk in Lincoln NH. You have your choice of the nature walk at the Notch, or up to 20k anywhere along the Pemi trail. I chose Profile Lake, which is a beautiful walk.
