We had an absolute blast at our very first Casino Night Fundraiser! It was such a fun evening full of games, laughter, and great company and all for a great cause.
Huge thanks to First Command for sponsoring the event, we couldnโ€™t have done it without your support! And a big shoutout to the Military Museum in South Portland for hosting us in such a cool and meaningful space.
Thanks to everyone who came out, played, donated, and made the night so special. Weโ€™re already looking forward to the next one! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Family Spotlight โ€“ The Jutilas

Petty Officer Second Class Cole Jutila, his wife Liah, their children Hudson (2) and Scarlett (6 months), and their pups Ella and Finn proudly call Portland, Maine home.

Originally from a small town in Illinois, the Jutilas have fully embraced the spirit of Northern New England โ€” from rocky coastlines and lighthouses to cozy coffee shops and quiet freshwater lakes.

Cole serves aboard the CGC Marcus Hanna as a Machinery Technician Second Class, while Liah works as a Mental Health Therapist and serves as the cutterโ€™s Ombudsman. Together, they balance service, family, and the rhythm of Coast Guard life with grace and gratitude โ€” finding joy in their mission, their shipmates, and the community they now call home.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Family Spotlight โ€“ The Biddles

Petty Officer Second Class Nash Biddle, his wife Leandra, and their dog Boston call St. Albans, Vermont home.

Like many Coast Guard families, they continue to stand strong during the shutdown โ€” balancing service, family life, and the uncertainty that comes with missed paychecks.

Still, the Biddles find joy in what makes Northern New England special: fishing, hiking, and exploring the small towns and community traditions that make Vermont feel like family.

Even in challenging times, their love for the mission and their community never wavers.

Standing Ready in South Portland

While the shutdown continues, Coast Guard crews in South Portland remain steadfast in their commitment to protect Northern New Englandโ€™s waterways.

From Sector Northern New England overseeing operations across the region, to the Aids to Navigation Team, Station South Portland, the 65โ€™ ice breaking tugs, and the 175โ€™ cutter Marcus Hanna maintaining buoys and responding to mariners in distress โ€” these crews continue to serve without pause.

Every day, they stand the watch โ€” ensuring safety, security, and readiness, even in uncertain times. Their quiet professionalism keeps our ports open, our waters safe, and our communities protected.

โš“๏ธ Guarding the Nationโ€™s Eastern Edge

At the farthest reaches of our coastline, the crew of Station Eastport, Maine stands the watch โ€” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

From conducting safety boardings and coastal patrols to launching at a momentโ€™s notice for search and rescue, these dedicated men and women protect lives and property where the Atlantic first meets the United States.

Even amid uncertainty, their mission continues โ€” watching over our northern waters and keeping the homeland safe.

The CPOA Northern New England stands ready to assist our members and their families โ€” with the strength of our community beside us.

๐ŸŒŸ Family Spotlight: The Markham Family ๐ŸŒŸ

Meet MK3 Jeffery Markham and his family, proud to call Vermont home.

For the Markhams, Vermont is a place best enjoyed by slowing down and taking in its natural beauty. They love driving through winding back roads lined with covered bridges, hiking in the Green Mountains, and relaxing by the shores of Lake Champlain.

The crisp air, vibrant fall foliage, and small-town charm make them feel right at home. From local farmersโ€™ markets to maple syrup stands, theyโ€™ve found countless ways to connect with their community and embrace the heart of Northern New England living.

Behind every Coast Guard mission is a family like the Markhams โ€” grounded, resilient, and proud to serve.

Still Standing the Watch

As the shutdown continues, Coast Guard crews across Northern New England quietly prepare while remaining ready to serve.

From Eastport to Jonesport, Southwest Harbor to Rockland and Belfast, and all the way to Portsmouth Harbor, South Portland, and Burlington, our members continue to safeguard our coastlines and communities.

Even in uncertain times, their dedication never wavers โ€” the mission continues, and Northern New England remains safe.

๐ŸŒŸ Family Spotlight: The Bieber Family ๐ŸŒŸ

Meet Petty Officer First Class Shane Bieber, his wife Jenna, and their two sons โ€” Jameson (7) and Milo (2) โ€” proud to call Burlington, Vermont home.

Surrounded by the beauty of Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains, the Biebers appreciate everything that makes Northern New England special โ€” the changing seasons, maple-flavored treats, and family adventures in places like Stowe.

For the Biebers, Burlington has become much more than just a duty station. Itโ€™s a place to connect as a family, explore the outdoors, and enjoy the tight-knit community that defines Vermont life. Whether hiking local trails or spending time by the lake, they embody the spirit of service, family, and resilience that make the Coast Guard family so strong.

Behind every mission is a family โ€” and weโ€™re proud to share their story.

โš“๏ธ The Weight of Uncertainty

As the government shutdown continues, Coast Guard members across Northern New England remain on duty โ€” saving lives, protecting property, and keeping our waterways safe.

But the reality of a missed paycheck is starting to weigh heavily on many families. The stress, the anxiety, and the unknown are real โ€” yet so is their dedication to the mission.

Your support helps relieve some of that burden, reminding our shipmates and their families that theyโ€™re not alone.

Family Spotlight: The McGowen Family ๐ŸŒŸ

Meet Senior Chief Nicholas McGowen, stationed in Burlington, Vermont. Senior Chief has proudly served our nation for over 18 years, but behind the uniform is a devoted family โ€” a wife of 12 years, an 11-year-old son, and 9-year-old twins.

The McGowens love Northern New England for its seasons, its tight-knit community, and yes โ€” the great food! After spending over 9 years in Vermont and Maine, theyโ€™re planning to make this region their forever home.

During this government shutdown, families like the McGowens remind us that the Coast Guard isnโ€™t just about missions and rescues โ€” itโ€™s about people. Dedicated service members and their loved ones who live, work, and give back to the very communities they protect.

๐Ÿ™ Thank you for standing with our Coast Guard families.

๐Ÿšจ Standing the Watch โ€” Even in a Shutdown

Every single day, Coast Guard crews in Northern New England respond to distress calls, save lives, and protect property. Whether itโ€™s pulling a boater from frigid waters, responding to a medical emergency on the lake, or keeping vital shipping lanes safe โ€” their service never stops.

But right now, these men and women are doing it without the certainty of a paycheck.

Your donation helps ease that burden โ€” ensuring members and their families can keep gas in their tanks, food on the table, and heat in their homes.

Today marks another day of the federal shutdown. This time, all military branches are affected โ€” and that means service members across the country are working without pay.

Here in Northern New England, Coast Guard crews continue to stand the watch: patrolling Lake Champlain, braving the Atlantic, and protecting our ports. While the mission goes on.

The CPOA Northern New England Chapter is stepping up to support our families with essentials like groceries, gas, and heating fuel.
