Veterans Forward provides critical assistance to create a sustainable future for Maine’s veterans, service members and their families. By working with each veteran’s unique needs, Veterans Forward seeks to remove barriers impacting their health, safety, or well-being. Filling in the gaps in care often not provided by other resources, Veterans Forward is proud to serve our veteran community in Maine. Veterans Forward, a program of Fedcap – Serving Maine, is made possible through philanthropic support and the unwavering commitment of the former Veterans Count Maine Board. October 15, 2026 is now officially Veterans Forward Day in Maine.

Governor Janet Mills has issued a proclamation recognizing Veterans Forward, Easterseals Maine’s program supporting veterans, service members, and military families across the state.

From housing and substance use treatment to food, clothing, job training, and home heating assistance, Veterans Forward helps Maine’s military community access the support they need.

With winter approaching, that work is especially urgent. Heating costs can force families already under financial strain to choose between keeping their homes warm and meeting other basic needs.

That’s why this year’s Make 12 Hours Count Radiothon, airing Thursday on WGAN from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., will focus on home heating assistance.

Today, Veterans Forward at Easterseals Maine recognizes Agent Orange Awareness Day, a time to raise awareness about the lasting impact of Agent Orange exposure on veterans, their families, and caregivers.

Millions of gallons of Agent Orange were used during the Vietnam War, and decades later many veterans continue to face serious health conditions linked to that exposure. For some families, the effects have spanned generations.

This day serves as a reminder of the importance of education, advocacy, and access to benefits, healthcare, and support services for those affected.

We encourage our community to learn more about Agent Orange, listen to the stories of Vietnam veterans, and help ensure that those impacted receive the recognition and care they deserve.

Together, we can honor their service by increasing awareness and supporting those who continue to live with the effects of exposure.

On Purple Heart Day, Veterans Forward at Easterseals Maine proudly honors the brave service members who were wounded or made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

The Purple Heart is one of our nation's oldest military decorations, awarded to those who have been injured or killed in combat. Today, we recognize the extraordinary courage, resilience, and selfless service of Purple Heart recipients and their families.

Their sacrifices remind us of the true cost of freedom and inspire us to uphold our commitment to supporting veterans in our communities.

Please join us in honoring these heroes and expressing our gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

The future of work is strongest when employers recognize talent in all its forms. We see that every day through our work supporting Maine's veterans and job seekers and across The Fedcap Group network.

That's why we're excited to celebrate Runway of Dreams' new partnership with Agron, the exclusive licensing partner for adidas America adaptive accessories.
