Hello,

Reviving this page! I am Nick Stambach and I am Cubmaster of Pack 22. The Cubs have been busy this year on several adventures. Here is a short list of what we've been up to this year:

-personal safety which included techniques from an RMA instructor on how to get away from a stranger
-a visit to SoPo firehouse at Cash Corner
-citizenship where Scouts participated in mock elections and had a talk from former SoPo Mayor Dhalac
-flag folding
-marching in the Veterans Day parade
-making holiday cards for homebound seniors
-family game night
-physical exercise night
-healthy eating and knife skills
-making slime
-paper airplanes with recycled materials

And now we are working on our Pinewood Derby cars.

As a family pack we are made up of boys and girls in K-5th Grade. We meet Thursdays at 630pm during the school year.

Pack 22 and Troop 23 joined a sea of South Portlanders this morning to honor the sacrifice of fallen service members.

See you at the Parade

We're happy to share that the South Portland War Veteran's Memorial Association is once again sponsoring the annual South Portland Memorial Day Parade. The parade will feature marching bands, color guards, floats, an array of vehicles, sports teams and more.

At 10:30 AM the parade steps off, beginning at SMCC and continuing down Broadway to the Veteran’s Monument, just beyond Pratt and Abbott, where there will be a short Memorial Day Recognition Service.

Please note that roads will be closed in the area to accommodate the parade. Please plan accordingly.

We kicked off Pinewood Derby activities this week and our scouts are psyched! We looked at some of the pack’s past cars, shared ideas, and started designing. Every possible question was asked! Next meeting: cutting!

Pack 22 has been doing good skills work lately! Emergency preparedness is ongoing, with home fire escape maps being this week’s homework. Props to leaders Dan and Megan for making the learning fun, and to the scouts for keeping things hilarious.

The pack is growing and we want to keep it growing! Please share our posts with any friends that might be interested. Cub Scouting is for boys and girls aged 5-10, and we meet Thursdays 6-7 at the People’s United Methodist Church on Broadway in South Portland.

This week’s pack meeting featured Maggie Maxwell, animal control officer for South Portland and Cape Elizabeth. She told our scouts about the many scenarios she faces in her work, from returning lost pets to more unpredictable encounters with wild animals. She explained the steps citizens should take when we find animals that needs care or relocation, showed us her equipment and cruiser, and shared knowledge and insight into the needs and behaviors of creatures in our area. It was fun and educational night! Thanks Maggie!
