The Central Jersey Alumnae (CJA) Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on November 8, 1975 at Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield, New Jersey. Chapter membership has grown over ten-fold from our dynamic 30 charter members. We are proudly celebrating 48 years of rendering service to Union, Middlesex and Somerset counties of New Jersey.

As part of the 54th Annual New Jersey Statewide Founders Day Service Initiative, "Warm Belongings: Onesies & Hats Drive," our Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter President and First Vice President proudly joined team members at Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center to donate new onesies and hats for infants in the NICU.

This statewide effort brought warmth, comfort, and hope to babies and their families across New Jersey during some of their most challenging moments. Through service and sisterhood, we continue to honor our Founders' legacy by uplifting communities and making a meaningful impact.

Together, we are making a difference—one tiny hat, one cozy onesie, and one act of love at a time.

This past weekend, members of the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter proudly commemorated Juneteenth throughout our service area by engaging the community through voter registration, voter education, civic engagement, and Intergenerational Emergency Preparedness resources.

From celebrating freedom and progress to empowering community members with the tools and information needed to make their voices heard, we were honored to serve and connect across Middlesex, Somerset, and Union Counties.

What an incredible day we had last week celebrating the accomplishments of our youth and the bright futures that lie ahead!

The Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter (CJA) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was proud to award 20 scholarships and book awards to deserving students from Middlesex, Somerset, and Union Counties. These outstanding scholars have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, perseverance, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.

This year's recipients will continue their educational journeys at an impressive array of institutions, including Spelman College, Rutgers University, Hampton University, Howard University, Union College of New Jersey, University at Albany, Livingstone College, Pace University, Kean University, Georgetown University, and Syracuse University.

To each recipient: Congratulations on your achievements! Your hard work, determination, and dedication have brought you to this moment, and we cannot wait to see all that you accomplish in the years ahead.

Thank you to our Scholarship Committee, our Keynote Speaker Dr. Brenda A. Allen, President of Lincoln University, donors, families, and supporters who continue to make these opportunities possible. Together, we are helping to empower the next generation of leaders, scholars, and changemakers.

Delta Sigma Theta - Official - Happy !

Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.

Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.

Earlier today, members of the Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter, along with friends and family, came together for a cleanup of our adopted street, New Street, in Plainfield, NJ.

This meaningful day of service provided an opportunity to work together, demonstrate our pride in the community we serve, and help create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for all.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and energy to support this effort. Together, we continue to strengthen our community—one act of service at a time.

The Central Jersey Alumnae Chapter proudly celebrates being honored with the Community Service Award at the Visions and Pathways Giving Thanks Benefit Concert on June 3rd in recognition of our dedicated service and support of the organization's Wellness Program.

We are especially honored to have received a congratulatory letter from Governor Mikie Sherrill recognizing this achievement and the impact of our chapter's commitment to serving youth and families throughout our community.

The award was accepted on behalf of the chapter by our President, Patricia D. Williamson, and presented by Judith Favors, leader of the youth home program, alongside the organization's Executive Director.

This recognition reflects the collective dedication of our members to uplifting communities through service, advocacy, and meaningful partnerships. We are grateful to Visions and Pathways for this honor and look forward to continuing our work to support and empower those we serve.

Yesterday, CJA sorors came together across Central Jersey to celebrate Love My Sister Day — a beautiful day dedicated to sisterhood, fellowship, and connection.

From gathering in the welcoming homes of chapter sorors to sharing laughs and meaningful conversations at Stage House Tavern in Mountainside, the day was filled with joy, love, and treasured moments. Small groups connected throughout the area, creating opportunities to strengthen bonds, make new memories, and embrace the spirit of sisterhood that unites us.

Thank you to the gracious hosts who opened their homes, everyone who organized gatherings, and every soror who participated and made the day so special. Your presence, warmth, and commitment to building meaningful connections helped make Love My Sister Day a wonderful celebration of our sisterhood.

As we continue our 50th Chapter Anniversary year, moments like these remind us that our greatest strength is the love, support, and the sisterhood we share with one another.
