The South Padre Island Community Foundation was formed in May, 1992, originally as the South Padre Island Area Fund, a Subchapter of the Community Foundation of Texas with offices in Dallas. Some years later, the organization separated and formed independently the South Padre Island Community Foundation, a community-oriented nonprofit 501 C (3) Corporation. The organization was established to resp
ond to the long term, as well as emerging, needs of the community. Acting as a catalyst and conveyor, the South Padre Island Community Foundation, under its broad and benevolent mandate, supports worthwhile projects and channels resources to appropriate recipients within the community. Blending local traditions with current needs, the SPICF functions primarily as a grant making institution, but may also function as a conduit to perpetuate the philanthropic intentions of the donors for the benefit of the community. The SPICF is governed by a Board consisting of local volunteers with expertise and knowledge of the community and is assisted by an Advisory Board with membership throughout the area.
