South Orange Rescue Squad

South Orange Rescue Squad We receive no taxpayer funds and 100% of our operating costs are funded through donations and fund raising events.

The South Orange Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer organization that responds to 911 medical emergencies in South Orange, Maplewood, and the surrounding communities. The South Orange Volunteer Rescue Squad is an all volunteer EMS agency that responds to 911 calls and provides emergency medical services to South Orange and Maplewood, NJ and the surrounding communities. No member of the Rescue Squad

is compensated for his/her medical or administrative time and there is never a fee charged for our services. We are a community based organization that is dedicated to serving our neighbors when they need us most. In addition to serving the residents of South Orange and the campus of Seton Hall University, we are the primary backup agency for the Maplewood Fire Department and provide mutual aid to other surrounding towns/cities.

Come join us Monday, August 31 from 11 AM–3 PM in South Orange Village to learn how you can be prepared to respond to an overdose.

We’ll be providing free Narcan (naloxone), fentanyl test strips, drug disposal kits, and other overdose prevention resources.

While you should always call 9-1-1 for a suspected overdose, you don’t have to wait for EMS to arrive to intervene. We recommend everyone carry Narcan. Just like CPR, you’re more likely to use it to help someone you know than a stranger on the street.

Being prepared can make a difference in those critical minutes before help arrives.

Yesterday evening, Supervisor 3-0 and Special Operations 3-1 responded into Cedar Grove to assist Montclair Ambulance Unit with rehab at the scene of a structure fire.

While this was happening, Ambulance 3-4 responded to a call in Maplewood and Ambulance 3-2 responded to a call in South Orange.

It has been an honor and a privilege to assist the New Jersey EMS Task Force, along with agencies from across the state, in providing support for the FIFA World Cup!

From the opening match on June 13 through the championship match on Sunday, members of our agency served as part of regional strike teams strategically positioned around MetLife Stadium (New Jersey/New York Stadium). Our personnel also staffed medical aid stations at major public transportation hubs, helping ensure spectators, visitors, and the public had access to emergency medical care throughout the tournament.

In the last 81 days (since May 1st, 2026), SORS has participated in 43 events around the community! This is on top of our 911 responses.

These events ranged from:
🔹17 standby details (5Ks, Maplewoodstock, July 4th Fireworks, etc)
🔹8 community engagement details (block parties, preschool visits, memorials, etc)
🔹12 community CPR classes
🔹3 new member orientations
🔹3 internal training classes

This year, 22 SORS EMTs and 6 trainees provided EMS coverage for Maplewoodstock, a two day music festival in Township of Maplewood.

During the event, we distributed hundreds of adhesive bandages and cold packs and treated multiple attendees suffering from various injuries and illnesses.

While covering this event, SORS continued to answer a variety of 911 calls within South Orange, Maplewood, and neighboring communities.

We would like to thank the organizers of Maplewoodstock for their continued support and collaboration. We look forward for next year!
