South Orange Rescue Squad We receive no taxpayer funds and 100% of our operating costs are funded through donations and fund raising events.

The South Orange Rescue Squad is an all-volunteer organization that responds to 911 medical emergencies in South Orange, Maplewood, and the surrounding communities. The South Orange Volunteer Rescue Squad is an all volunteer EMS agency that responds to 911 calls and provides emergency medical services to South Orange and Maplewood, NJ and the surrounding communities. No member of the Rescue Squad is compensated for his/her medical or administrative time and there is never a fee charged for our services. We are a community based organization that is dedicated to serving our neighbors when they need us most. In addition to serving the residents of South Orange and the campus of Seton Hall University, we are the primary backup agency for the Maplewood Fire Department and provide mutual aid to other surrounding towns/cities.

We’re celebrating Mayor Sheena Collum birthday with a sock hop, and you’re invited! Join us for Rock & Roll Out, an evening of live music from Wh***ey & Sugar , a performance and dance instruction from the The Dance Mob , and plenty of time on the dance floor.

Every ticket helps raise funds toward the purchase of a new ambulance for the South Orange Rescue Squad. Help us get rolling as we approach our 75th anniversary in 2027! 🚑

Great to see our friend, The Seton Hall University Pirate, yesterday at the South Orange Community Relations Committee Community Day. It was lovely to spend time with so many other important community partners!

We also visited two block parties throughout the day.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we continue to remember all those who were killed and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders.

We mourn the lives taken that day and all the potential that was lost with them. Our thoughts remain with every family who had one less person at their dinner table, and with everyone who lost a friend, a colleague, a neighbor, etc. Nearly 3,000 innocent people died that day, and millions of lives would never be the same as a result.

We also hold in our thoughts the many people who continue to suffer from illnesses related to the events of that day, and we hope for their continued strength and recovery.

And finally, we remain proud of our EMTs who answered the call for help at Ground Zero and who continued to serve in the difficult days that followed.

Last night, 21 SORS EMTs convened to discuss one of the many reasons people call 911: Trauma.

Under the instruction of our very own SORS member and now University Hospital Resident, Dr. Andy Ponici, and with the help of Medical Director Dr. Jesse Yuan of University Hospital/NJMS, our EMTs strengthened and refined their skills surrounding blunt/penetrating trauma, bleeding control, airway, airway wounds, and limb fractures.

Come join us Monday, August 31 from 11 AM–3 PM in South Orange Village to learn how you can be prepared to respond to an overdose.

We’ll be providing free Narcan (naloxone), fentanyl test strips, drug disposal kits, and other overdose prevention resources.

While you should always call 9-1-1 for a suspected overdose, you don’t have to wait for EMS to arrive to intervene. We recommend everyone carry Narcan. Just like CPR, you’re more likely to use it to help someone you know than a stranger on the street.

Being prepared can make a difference in those critical minutes before help arrives.

For more comprehensive training on responding to emergencies as a bystander, check out the educational classes available on our website.

Yesterday evening, Supervisor 3-0 and Special Operations 3-1 responded into Cedar Grove to assist Montclair Ambulance Unit with rehab at the scene of a structure fire.

While this was happening, Ambulance 3-4 responded to a call in Maplewood and Ambulance 3-2 responded to a call in South Orange.

It has been an honor and a privilege to assist the New Jersey EMS Task Force, along with agencies from across the state, in providing support for the FIFA World Cup!

From the opening match on June 13 through the championship match on Sunday, members of our agency served as part of regional strike teams strategically positioned around MetLife Stadium (New Jersey/New York Stadium). Our personnel also staffed medical aid stations at major public transportation hubs, helping ensure spectators, visitors, and the public had access to emergency medical care throughout the tournament.
