Girls Helping Girls. Period.

Girls Helping Girls. Period. We believe menstrual health is a matter of basic health and human dignity. Educate, Donate, Advocate. Girls Helping Girls. Period.

helps people stay at work and in school by providing them with essential menstrual health items which can be very expensive. We provide workshops for schools, groups and corporations on topics ranging from menstrual management (a fun, friendly way for young people to learn a lot) to period poverty and advocacy (great for high schools, colleges and corporate groups). We educate school boards, admin

istrators and community about the need for free period products in school bathrooms as a matter of equity. Please reach out if you're interested in working with us.

Why are period workshops SO critical?

Period Stigma... This educator explains just how that plays out in her school.

Period stigma leaves so many uninformed, and vulnerable to embarrassment, fear, infection and shame.

Menstrual products are as essential as food, soap, or toilet paper — yet they’re often left off donation lists and public assistance programs.
Without access, people can’t attend work, school, or even leave the house comfortably.
When we provide menstrual products to those who need them, we’re not just giving supplies — we’re giving opportunity, health, and dignity.

Periods aren’t weird. Not knowing about them is.
That’s why we created IYKYK... a period workshop for 5th graders. We talk openly, answer questions, and make sure every student leaves with real tools and confidence.

🙅🏽‍♀️ Reducing stigma around menstruation starts with education and openness. When students hear the truth about periods, we help minimize shame and confidence grows. We see it happen in every class.

Period Poverty is defined as not having adequate access to menstrual items and proper sanitation AND ALSO... a lack of education about menstrual health. Many people fall into this last category. What to do about it?
SYSTEMIC CHANGE starts with our demanding the most basic essentials. Managing periods is no more a matter or personal responsibilty than wiping after we use the bathroom. We should expect the items we need to be where we need them.

RETHINK!! Let's together.

Missed Work = Missed Opportunities
When people don’t have period products, they can’t go to school.
They can’t go to work.
They can’t show up for their lives.
Period poverty takes away opportunities every month.

Our product distribution program offers supplies of period
products to agency partners so they can keep their clients covered, and safe.

This is IYKYK: our fun, honest, and judgment-free period management workshop for 5th graders.
We believe period education should be part of growing up... not something kids figure out in a panic.

Showing our students how to talk about their bodies, and understand symptoms means they can communicate with doctors, and even share with their families. Period stigma is, sadly, rampant in many communities and this is an important step in eliminating it. 💬 It’s time to start normalizing period conversations in classrooms, homes, workplaces, and beyond. The more we talk, the less stigma there is.

Period Poverty is solvable. But making period kits and forcing people to rely on donated products is not the solution. It's a band-aid. WE MUST:
📌Make period products as readily available as toilet paper in workplaces, public buildings and schools
📌Better educate students about menstrual health and its effect on longterm reproductive health.
📌Speak openly about periods and period problems in order normalize this for those who have been stigmatized into believing they shouldn't... which is most people.

Discussion of periods should be as normal as discussion of any other natural, normal, healthy bodily function. Period.

A period friendly world is one in which anyone can go into any bathroom and find all they need to manage their menstrual health. Period.⁣
Stop the stigma by taking about periods and ensuring the spaces you control are Period Friendly!⁣
Happy Menstrual Health Day!! ⁣

GHGP works with agencies all over New Jersey to ensure their clients are not limited in their lives by a lack of period products.

This is just a short-term fix to a systemic problem. We must make pads, tampons and all menstrual care products more accessible to everyone. It is a matter of human decency and public health.
