The Orange Education Association (OEA) kicked off the new school year with a successful New Staff Membership Drive and Member Benefits Fair, welcoming new educators and introducing them to the many resources, programs, and benefits available through their union membership.

The Member Benefits Fair provided educators with valuable information on teacher discounts, financial resources, insurance, security, and trusted programs designed to support members through every stage of life. Representatives were on hand to answer questions and connect new staff members with services that can benefit them both personally and professionally.

The OEA was proud to host representatives from:

- NJEA Member Benefits
- EIS/Prudential
- Optical Academy
- NEA Security Benefits
- AID-NJEA

The event was also strengthened by the support of union leaders and representatives from across the state, including Essex County Education Association - ECEA 1st Vice President, Chris Canella, New Jersey Education Association Region 21 Uniserv Representative, Chantel Rivers-Jasey, and Part-Time Consultant Jeremias Salinas.

This event was a wonderful way to welcome new educators, build connections, and demonstrate that membership means support, resources, advocacy, and a community of educators working together!

NJDOE issues educator evaluation rubric weights for the '26-"27 school year! The SGO pause remains in effect!

NJDOE issues educator evaluation rubric weights for 2026-2027.

The key takeaway: there are NO changes to educator evaluation for 2026-27! The SGO pause remains in effect and mSGP remains at 5%. The NJDOE’s updated FAQ (linked in the field advisory) contains helpful information, and I recommend everyone look that over as well.

Congratulations to our Vice President, Dwight Holmes, who waa selected as the 2027 Essex County ESP of Year!!! 🎉🎉🎉

Besides serving as OEA's vice president , Mr. Holmes, serves as the Essex County Education Association - ECEA parliamentarian, and a representative on the NJEA Constitution Review Committee.

In November, Mr. Holmes will be honored at the County ESP celebration dinner. Please check their website in the future for details.

On Saturday, July 4th, in Denver, during the NEA Representative Assembly, Sidney was nominated and elected by acclamation as NEA ESP At-Large Board of Director. This incredible achievement reflects his unwavering commitment to education support professionals, organized labor, and the fight for equity and economic justice.

We are incredibly proud of Sidney for taking this leap of faith and stepping into this important National leadership role. We know he will continue to be a strong voice for ESPs across the country and represent us with integrity, passion, and purpose.
