📣 A new time for back2earth, a new future for composting.

This week, we have shut down our last community compost station in South Miami.

After 5 years of community composting in Miami, we have decided to launch 3 new programs to increase our impact.

Every week, for the past 5 years, we (Mila, Anna, Emma and Ugo - the 4 founders of back2earth) have collected in Coconut Grove, Midtown, South Miami, and treated your food scraps to turn it into a beautiful compost.

We have happily spent thousands of hours to help you compost.

💚 Thank you so much to all the people who have dropped their food scraps to our stations.
You have contributed to divert around 182,400 pounds of food scraps from landfills.
We have produced 15,200 pounds of beautiful compost.
We have saved around 73 tons of carbon dioxide from being emitted.

💚 Thank you so much to our partners and donors who have helped us so much, with prizes, grants, donations and resources (e.g. mulch!).

💚 Thank you to the journalists and media who have contributed to our success.

💚 Thank you to schools, companies, events, who have hosted our presentations to explain all the benefits of composting.

We have learned so much about how to run our programs to fit our capabilities and your needs (and both our hopes!). Now it’s time for back2earth to launch new programs.

🍀 NEW back2earth program offers Pilot Family/Home Composter 🍀

We are very happy to have helped our first family get equipped with our new back2earth composter.
It’s a pilot program that will become a very popular solution to composting at home: Straightforward, aerated, and no-smell that will bring lots of climate-positive benefits for your family, our community and the planet as a whole.

Our composter is easy to assemble (20 seconds assembly).
Efficient.
Exists in 3 sizes: For families of 1 - 3 members, 4 - 6, and micro-communities (e.g. you and your friends!).

The daily disposal of our food scraps in landfills is a major contributor to the climate crisis. back2earth wants to build the largest composting community possible to help divert millions of pounds of these food scraps away from landfills and put them back into gardens.

Here's a thought: the food scraps you dispose of in the regular trash are the same food scraps that release excessive amounts of methane into the atmosphere.

estimates that 81 million pounds of food scraps make their way to landfills on a yearly basis in Miami Dade County alone. It's time to make a change and redirect the curve by including composting in your daily habits.

cover in the Bay has drastically declined over the last 10 years, up to 90% in some areas...

Construction sites release massive amounts sediment-waste, creating plumes of sediments, covering seagrass, destroying in the process this important element that is home to many small marine organisms and regulates by stabilizing sediments and cycling nutrients.

By composting, can help alleviate the strain by introducing microorganisms to depleted soils, and hope to slowly restore Biscayne Bay's seagrass levels.

As humans, our everyday actions are accelerating today's climate crisis.

Last week, the IPCC released its annual report and predictions regarding the state of our climate (and it's bad guys...). We need to act fast, starting with everyday simple, common things like putting your fruit and vegetable peels in a compost bin rather than your trash. Dumping organic matter in a landfill serves no purpose, only to increase the release of methane into the atmosphere, and we all know what happens after that; methane being a heat-trapping greenhouse gas...

Food scraps making their way to landfills directly fuels rising global temperatures, and escalates soil degradation. (Keep in mind soils act as carbon sinks)

Take the time to compost your food scraps and give back2earth for our future generations. (pun intended)

Ever since its inception, back2earth’s Compost 4 All program has been working to reduce the amount of local food scraps entering landfills. Year 2021, and we’re doing just that! 💪
