K9 Defense Fund is incredibly honored to share that a ballistic vest has been purchased for Oakland County Sheriff’s Office K9 Voodoo.

Voodoo is a 3-year-old Hanoverian Hound serving with the OCSO K9 Unit and Search & Rescue Team (SSRT).

This isn’t just another piece of equipment.

It’s $3,700 worth of ballistic protection for a police K9 working real calls alongside his handler — the kind of calls where things can change fast.

That’s why this matters.

Voodoo’s vest was generously sponsored by Tim and Susan Lucken, and his handler and family are incredibly grateful knowing he now has that protection when he heads out to work.

Because when Voodoo leaves for a shift, he’s not just going out to do a job —
he’s going out with a partner who relies on him,
and a home full of people who love him waiting for him to come back.

There are still K9s out there doing this job without that protection.

This season, our hearts are full — full of gratitude, love, and deep respect for the incredible K9s who serve beside their handlers every single day.

This year - because of you, 8 K9s go to work protected by ballistic armor, 2 K9s and their handlers got to attend world class training, and MANY other K9s were equipped with essential gear and training aids. Because of you, 8 handlers and their families get to fall asleep this Christmas knowing their fur babies are protected💙

Behind every vest is a dog with a story.
Behind every donation is a person who chose to care.
And behind every life saved is a promise that their safety should never be optional.

K9 Jett 🐕‍🦺 DOES. NOT. QUIT. Even if it means almost running a 5K 🏃💨

After a shots-fired call at a home, officers found the suspects’ vehicle abandoned after they ran away.
K9 Jett and Officer Pellegrino picked up a track and quickly found two suspects nearby. But that was just the start. The team then found a second track for a third suspect and followed it nearly THREE miles, crossing a river and eventually locating the suspect.

In just one month, K9 Jett has helped track down seven shooting suspects. Incredible work by K9 Jett and Officer Pellegrino!
