Happy African Union Day!

Today, we celebrate the spirit of unity, resilience, and collective progress that binds nations across Africa together. As we honor the strength and diversity of our continent, we are reminded that Africa’s greatest asset is its people, and the health and well-being of mothers remain central to building stronger families, healthier communities, and sustainable development.

At the Africa Preeclampsia Network, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing maternal health, strengthening awareness, and promoting collaboration across borders to ensure safer pregnancies and healthier outcomes for women across the continent.

Together, we can build an Africa where healthier mothers mean stronger communities and a brighter future for all.

AU MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF APEC GHANA

Happy Africa Day 🧡.

Africa has shaped me in love and in loss. Though this continent has in ways I carry quietly, robbed me of my babies , it has not taken my hope. I remain proud to be African held by the strength of Mother Africa, by the resilience of our women, and by the promise that tomorrow can be kinder than yesterday.

I hold on to the vision of an Africa where motherhood is safer, every pregnancy is protected, every mother is cared for, and every child is given the chance to thrive. As a proud Ghanaian, I carry both grief and hope, believing still in healing, in unity, and in a future where we rise together.

On this World Preeclampsia Day 2026, we must confront a painful truth: _preeclampsia is still killing women and babies_ .

The Executive Director of APEC Ghana highlights this critical reality in a news feature by Unitaid commemorating .

Too many mothers continue to lose their lives due to delayed diagnosis, weak health systems, limited access to essential medicines, and inequities in maternal healthcare. We can no longer treat these deaths as inevitable.

This is not only a health issue; it is a matter of equity, dignity, and justice.

As we join the global call for accountability and action in maternal healthcare, we invite you to read, reflect, and help raise awareness by sharing this message widely.

Together, we can ensure that no woman dies while giving life.

Maternal outcomes should not depend on geography, income, or luck. Access to timely diagnosis and treatment for preeclampsia remains uneven, with preventable consequences for women and newborns. PRESS STATEMENT BY GLOBAL PREECLAMPSIA ADVOCATES

As we commemorate World Preeclampsia Day 2026, we reaffirm that maternal health is not only a health issue but also one of equity, human rights, and social justice.

Recent global discussions, including the WHO Global Preeclampsia Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, highlighted the urgent need for stronger advocacy, accountability, political commitment, and multisectoral collaboration to reduce maternal and newborn deaths linked to preeclampsia.

It is against this backdrop that we, the Global Preeclampsia Advocates (GPA), issue this statement as a call to action for governments, institutions, development partners, civil society, and communities to prioritize preeclampsia within national and global maternal health agendas.
