AARP Tax-Aide of South Lake Tahoe will once again be providing free tax preparation for California and Nevada taxpayers of all ages (NOT just seniors)! All tax preparers are annually certified by the IRS.

The free tax service will be offered at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 2 PM, February 9 through April 13th. No appointments are available, and people are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Before coming in to have your taxes prepared, please pick up an information packet inside the Recreation Center main entrance, or inside the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.

When you come to the Recreation Center to have your taxes prepared, remember to bring with you:
* photo ID for all adults
* Social Security/ITIN cards for everyone on the return
* bank routing number and account number for direct deposit
* ALL 2025 tax documents (if you have electronic documents, you must either provide a hard copy OR take a screenshot and have it available on your phone)
* your 2024 complete tax return
* completed Intake/Interview form from the information packet

The South Lake Tahoe Tax-Aide Team assisted over 400 local households in completing and submitting their 2024 taxes this season! Our new location at the local Recreation Center worked well, as we got the word out to many new taxpayers about our free services. We look forward to serving you again next tax season.

Tomorrow - Thursday, February 6th - is the first shift open to the public for tax preparation with AARP Tax-Aide of South Lake Tahoe. Volunteers will be available between 10 AM and 2 PM to help taxpayers. You'll need to bring with you all your 2024 tax documents; your complete 2023 tax return; photo IDs for taxpayer and spouse, if applicable; and social security/ITIN cards for everyone on the tax return. AARP Tax-Aide of South Lake Tahoe will once again be providing free tax preparation for local taxpayers of all ages (NOT just seniors!), from February 6th through April 14th. This year we've moved to the Recreation Center (1180 Rufus Allen Blvd), where you may pick up a tax packet, starting January 21st, to complete before coming in for tax preparation. Beginning Thursday, February 6th, trained volunteers will be meeting with taxpayers on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. The Tahoe Tax-Aide team will not be preparing taxes on Monday, April 1st or Monday, April 8th, as our schedule previously indicated. But we do have 6 more shifts left for taxpayers to receive our free tax preparation services: Thursdays: March 28th, April 4th, & April 11th, 2-6 PM; and Saturdays: March 30th, April 6th, & April 13th, 9 AM-1 PM.

Due to the blizzard conditions expected over the next couple of days, the local Tax-Aide team is cancelling our shift for tomorrow, Saturday, March 2nd. We hope to be back at the Senior Center to help with your taxes on Monday, March 4th at 2 PM.

We have helped close to 100 local taxpayers so far this tax season. Last Saturday we did not have a wait at all during the shift! So, if you have all your tax documents for 2023, come see us tomorrow (February 24th) at the Senior Center (3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd) between 9 AM and 1 PM, for free tax preparation.

Don't forget to bring Social Security/ITIN cards for everyone on the return; photo ID for yourself (and spouse if filing jointly); last year's tax return; and all 2023 tax documents.

We will have our first shift open to the public tomorrow, February 8th from 2-6 PM. If you have all your 2023 tax documents, come to the Lake Tahoe Senior Center at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. for free tax preparation. Please note that if you arrive near the end of our shift, depending on the number of people already waiting, and other factors, you may not be accommodated. Bring with you: photo ID for all adults on the return; Social Security/ITIN cards for everyone listed on the return; your 2022 tax packet/documents; and all your 2023 tax documents. FYI, if you have any electronic documents, you must either provide a hard copy OR take a screenshot and have it available on your phone's photo gallery.

If you cannot come to our opening shift tomorrow, we will also be available at the Senior Center this Saturday, February 10th from 9 AM to 1 PM; and on Monday, February 12th from 2-6 PM.

South Lake Tahoe Tax-Aide will begin preparing taxes on Thursday, February 8th. We'll be open to the public on Thursdays from 2-6 PM until April 13th. We'll also have shifts on Saturdays from 9 AM-1 PM, starting on February 10th and ending on April 13th; and Mondays from 2-6 PM beginning February 12th through March 25th EXCEPT 2/19 (President's Day).

Of course, all shifts are subject to cancellation in the event of severe weather. This page will be updated in the event of any cancellation.

Starting next week on January 22nd, taxpayers can pick up a packet at the Senior Center (3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.) between 8:30 AM-12:30 PM Monday-Friday.

Thanks to everyone who came out to have their taxes prepared by us at the Senior Center. Our last shift for this season was Thursday, April 13th. The good news for El Dorado County residents is, if you missed your chance to have our volunteers help with free tax preparation, you do have an extension (due to the extreme weather) to file your federal and state taxes until October 16th, 2023. Tax-Aide will not be available to help, since we'd already planned our season before the extension was granted. But this gives you some extra time to look at other options to have your taxes completed.

Three shifts remain for this tax season: Thursday, April 6, from 2 - 6 PM; Saturday, April 8, from 9 AM - 1 PM; and Thursday, April 13, from 2 - 6 PM.
