In a new opinion piece in the , Keep Tahoe Blue’s Natural Resource Director Laura Patten explains why the threat of invasive golden mussels demands strong, statewide action.

Read the op-ed at keeptahoeblue.org/news or sfchronicle.com/opinion.

Lake Tahoe — and all of California's waterways — face a growing threat from this harmless-sounding but ecologically disastrous aquatic invasive species.

A boat carrying golden mussels was recently stopped before launching at Tahoe, highlighting just how close this invasive species is to reaching Big Blue.

If golden mussels get in, they could exponentially accelerate the Lake’s slow shift from blue to green.

Read the full op-ed, and be sure to Clean, Drain, and Dry all your water gear before it touches the Lake. 💙

Summer's in full swing in Tahoe, and if Emerald Bay is on your list this season, now’s the time to plan ahead. 💙

The Emerald Bay Shuttle returns in mid-June, offering an easier, less stressful way to visit one of Tahoe’s busiest destinations while helping reduce traffic and pollution to the Lake.

Last summer showed why it matters: CHP issued 248 parking citations and towed 10 vehicles along the Emerald Bay corridor. Skip this mess of parking tickets and take the shuttle instead.

🚌 Daily service begins mid-June
📍 Pickups from the West Shore and South Shore
🎟️ $10 roundtrip for adults / $5 for kids / discounted fares available
🗓️ Reserve tickets online

🛑 Roadside parking restrictions will be enforced

Less driving. More time to enjoy the view.

This Summer Solstice, we’re proud to highlight two of our Tahoe Blue Businesses that are helping protect Lake Tahoe through their commitment to sustainability. 💙🌲

OMNI Tahoe and Black Bear Lodge are going beyond business as usual by reducing single-use plastics, supporting community cleanups, and giving back directly to our lake-saving work.

On June 20, these community-minded partners are coming together for a special Summer Solstice celebration featuring movement, meditation, music, and connection beneath the pines.

The Tahoe community came together this weekend to help restore Marlette Creek and protect Lake Tahoe’s clarity for generations to come. 💙🌲

Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day is one of our favorite annual events because of the lasting impact it creates and the incredible partners and volunteers who make it possible.

Together, volunteers planted native vegetation, stabilized streambanks, and supported restoration efforts that improve wildlife habitat and protect Lake Tahoe’s world-famous clarity.

Thank you to our partners, project leaders, and volunteers for making this East Shore work possible. Nevada Tahoe Conservation District U.S. Forest Service - Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit

“If we lose the clear water of Tahoe, we lose everything we love about it.” — Dr. Darcie Goodman Collins, CEO of Keep Tahoe Blue.

Today’s 2025 Lake Tahoe Clarity Report shows Tahoe’s water clarity remains stable, continuing a decades-long trend underpinned by restoration projects, stormwater improvements, and pollution reduction efforts as part of Tahoe’s Environmental Improvement Program.

Stability is good, yet protecting — and improving — Tahoe’s famous blue waters will require new scientific research, continued conservation work, and community action to address invasive species, algae, climate change, and other factors impacting Lake clarity.

The good news? Everyone can help.

🚲 Choose car-free transportation.
🛶 Clean, Drain, and Dry all watercraft and gear.
♻️ Reduce single-use plastics.
🌿 Volunteer for restoration projects that protect Tahoe’s natural pollution filters.

Together, we can keep Lake Tahoe beautiful and blue for generations to come.
