This past weekend over 100 women from over six different denominations gathered to Taste and See that God is good. Lulu's Emily got to share with them the story of Anuula - a mother from Sri Lanka who taught HER the goodness of Jesus.

“Jesus tastes so sweet to me,” Anuula told Emily on her trip to Sri Lanka. “I keep opening my mouth wide, wanting to taste Him more. He’s like the leaves of a tree that grows here. Its leaves are so sweet. Jesus tastes like that, and I can’t stop eating Him.”

This is the legacy of Lulu. A long line of mothers from the poorest of villages who teach US, in the west, how to hunger for God.

CELEBRATE WITH US, friends! 🥳 20 more mothers have graduated from a new South Asian country whose name we cannot say - but - God knows, God sees, God hears.

"The mothers are garbed in their black gowns and caps, and they smile like I've never seen - like all their pent-up hopes and dreams are now spilling out, bravely, because one dream has come true." (Read more on our Lulu Tree Substack)

THIS is what we love! Being able to come alongside dear women who've never dared dream and giving them permission to! To start that tailoring shop, or salon, or to buy goats or cows or chickens so they can take care of their children... This is our great delight! And then to watch these mothers study and learn, even the illiterate ones, because we are drawn to the poorest of the poor - and then, to put on graduation gowns?

There are not enough balloons to express our joy. This is the goodness of God.

It is projected that by 2050, the number of Christians in sub-saharan Africa will outnumber ALL the Christians in North America, Europe and Russia, combined.

Our Director of Discipleship is from one of these sub-saharan countries - Baptist Emochu, from Uganda - seen here with Lulu President Emily Theresa's oldest son, Aiden. Baptist is now discipling Aiden along with Aiden's brother over WhatsApp each week. Because this is the trend - Africa is now our breadbasket; Africa, the place we used to send missionaries, is now ministering to us.

Baptist is one of the finest Bible teachers the world will ever know - and this is because he has encountered Christ personally. He will freely tell you how he used to run mad in the streets. How he was one of the first of Kampala's street children to beg from cars and sleep in stairwells. How he lived in brothels and how one day, someone gave him a Bible. And even in his drunken state, he clung to that Bible. And now, he plants churches and disciples hundreds of pastors.

How many of us can say we've encountered Christ personally?

It started with a baby. As all good things do. But this baby was dying. She was just a puff of air in her mother's arms and when we met her, we thought she was a newborn. In truth? She was 18 months old. One and a half years old, wrapped up in a blanket in her mother's arms. She'd been fed weak tea since she was born because her mama had nothing else to give. "Don't cry," this mama told us. "God is still alive."

And this is the faith that sustains us, compels us, keeps us going, month after month - fasting and praying and believing for mothers all around the world who have nothing but weak tea to feed their children.

Sister Erlinda received a refrigerator, a case of soft drinks, and packs of bagged water to start her small home-based business. She cares for her 17-year-old grandson and expressed her gratitude to be able to work from home and support her family.
