The idea of R-Zu Water Project initiated when our parents shared stories with us about their native India, Pakistan, and Africa. As they would reminisce about growing up, they shared experiences about their youth. They told us about the hardships people face in these developing countries. One of the facts they shared was that people in some rural areas have to travel for miles to get water for the
ir daily use. This was a hard-absorbing fact. We had never thought that something as abundant as water could be so scarce and unattainable in certain areas of the world, especially in this age, where everything is readily accessible. It was hard to accept that even in the year 2016, there were people in the world who did not have clean drinking water. As we started researching this, we learned that 780 million people in the world do not have access to clean water - that's 1 in 10 people. Instantly, we felt we should do something to contribute to erase this worldwide dilemma. We came up with the idea of hand-sketching greeting cards and selling them with proceeds going to a water charity in those developing nations.
We are blessed that our project launch was with Eid collection cards and was initiated during Ramadan 2016. From here on forward, we plan to raise funds by creating and selling new designs for our cards every Ramadan. We graciously accept any donations, small or big. After each Ramadan, we hope to find an area in the world where our small-scale and humble project will help provide clean water to the people in need.
